I've been on a foreign film kick lately and I thought I would share some recommendations.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - I think Sav recommended this one as well. Damn good mystery/thriller about the disappearance of a young, Swedish girl 40 years ago. David Fincher is currently shooting the American version of this best-selling novel.

Flame & Citron - based on actual events, this is the story of two Dutch resistance fighters during WWII who are sent out to assassinate Nazi officials and collaborators.

The Proposition - an Australian western written by Nick Cave about the middle brother (Guy Pearce) of a band of outlaws who can save his little brother from the noose if he'll assassinate his older brother. Ray Winstone is tremendous in this as the lawman offering the deal.

North Face - Man vs. Nature in this story of a two-man, German mountain climbing team who compete against a pair of Austrian climbers as both groups attempt to be the first to climb the north face of the Eiger in the Swiss Alps in 1936. Awesome story based on actual events.

As Far as My Feet will Carry Me - another true story about a German POW in Siberia and his attempt to escape and cross over 8000 miles of terrain to get back home.

I dug all of these and thought a lot of you might too. They are all available on Netflix streaming now.

As Far as My Feet Will Carry Me... Haven't seen the movie, but I read the biography about it (I think it's the same story). It was one of the best books I've ever read- which isn't saying much since I've only read about a dozen books in my life, lolz. But then again, it says a lot because I'm not the type to just read any book. A good book has to reach out and grab me and it will force me to keep reading until I can't stay awake.

Anyway, this book was about this POW dude (what Belasco said) who escapes some fucked up prison camp/gulag in Siberia (also like what Belasco said) and he treks for thousands of miles and eats nothing but tea leaves and melted snow for nutrition, energy and survival. This guy would have made people who do Iron man competitions, look like a pack of pussies. Great story, great journey, great ending.
