I was addicted to the show through the first 3 seasons, but after that I've just caught an episode here and there. It's still a good show, but I don't watch it near as much. The same goes for Family Guy. Maybe it's because I'm just not watching as much TV as I used to.

Stellar, humongous, gargantuan…and so on…South Park fan. If I had to nail down a favorite character it would be Butters. I laugh uncontrollably every time he goes into this ‘LuLuLu I’ve got some apples’ song. The Paris Hilton episode is the first time you hear it and it is so well placed.
And with this most recent post I am now a centenarian.
Cheers,
South Park is pure genious, just like everything Trey and Matt have done. The Scientology episode was so good that they won't replay it in England for fear of getting sued.

Big Southpark fan. Family Guy hasn't been as good as it was before it was axed but it's good to at least have it on the air. Southpark is without a doubt one of my favorite shows on TV if not my fave.

Cartman:(sweetly) "Hel-lo ma'am. We're going around town and offering snow-shoveling service. Would you like your driveway and sidewalk shoveled for eight thousand dollars?"
Woman: "Oh well, I certainly could use some little snow-shovelers, but eight thousand dollars seems a little steep. How about ten dollars?"
Cartman: "Ooh, ouch, ma'am, please, let go of that tight grip you have on my balls! Ten dollars, you're breaking my balls, ma'am!"

Okay gloids, its time for a little "South Park Trivia". It won't be like "Who Wants To Be A Gloidinare", but it should be fun. Anyone can participate, and even if you screw up, you can try your luck at another question.
Okay, here goes the first question: In the "Mr. Hankey, The Christmas Poo" episode, Kyle refers to himself as the lonely what on Christmas?

The second half of Season 10 starts on October 4, man its gunna kick ass.

I love, love, love South Park! In fact my mom is from Colorado and it has to be a tie between the Passion of the Jew or the Scientology episode. I live right near Hollywood and sometimes work there so I get to see them in action complete with the military style outfits & everything. Every time I see them I always think of that episode.

A lot of fans like to say that the Jesus Vs. Santa cartoon was the first “South Park” ever made. Well, they're not exactly right, but they're on the right track. This one was made in 1992, and features what would later be the South Park kids. Keep in mind that, this was made when Trey and Matt were just film students in Colledge. Still, you can’t knock them for trying with this one.

Here is the one that really made “South Park” famous. This one is more to what we are used to now.

Agreed - but maintaining broadcast rights to 150+ bad movies indefinitely would probably be more of a financial strain than a boon. Plus, that's at least 2 hours per week devoted to something with little mainstream appeal. I'm a hardcore MST3k fan, but as far as TV goes, it was done. Even now copyright issues mean the show just trickles out on DVD, but that's how it's going to have to be.

Ahh, yes - Manos: The Hands of Fate. It's definitely an MST3k classic, but one that many consider an advanced-level episode. It's tough to get through even with the riffing. I make it a rule to never start someone new to the show off with "Manos". It's just too much. Other "advanced" titles include: "Hamlet (performed in phonetic English by Krauts)", "Mighty Jack", and any of the Coleman Francis films that were riffed.
And, yes :gloid:, I am a South Park fan.
When I listen to Bill Handel, they always talk about Joos. And when they do, the engineer puts drop-ins of Eric Cartman saying "JEW!", and "You're Jewish!", and "Good job, Jew!". My question is, which episode of Southpark does that come from? Because I must see it. I must.

Vako, that happens a lot on the show, there are too many episodes for me to name where that comes from. If you'd like to, you can visit Willie Westwood's South Park site (http://www.spscriptorium.com/). One of my favorite Cartman quotes is where they are on the ladder to Heaven, and Cartman says "Maybe we can't see Heaven, because one of us is a J O O, a Jew."

"5 Reasons We Still Love South Park"
by Danny Spiegel of TV Guide (Oct. 2-8, 2006)
1. No taboos. While it may have all started with talking poo, it has gone on to tackle the touchiest subjects, from stem-cell research ["Kenny Dies"] to the Terri Schiavo case ["Best Friends Forever"] to Scientology ["Trapped in the Closet"]. "We never sit down and go, 'Who can we take on this week?'" Parker says. "Our job is to say, 'Here's this thing. What do you think about that?'"
2. The animation rocks. Still reveling in its brilliant crudeness, the show's visual signature is unique in this Pixar-ish world. (And seriously, check out the depth of the backgrounds now as opposed to, say, Season 1.)
3. It reminds us how some kids really are. Let's face it, there's more than one "Cartman" out there. "Kids are so selfish," says Stone. "Part of being a kid is just being a big jerk."
4. They keep it current. It takes nine months for most animated shows to be produced, but South Park is done in six days thanks to a cohesive, veteran staff and a cutting-edge computer process. Their "Passion of the Christ" parody ["The Passion of the Jew"] aired only a month after the film was released.
5. It's still the same two guys putting it together. Parker and Stone have been there from Day 1 and their enthusiasm remains undiminished. "After 10 years," says Stone, "you look back and grudgingly go, 'Aw, OK, I'm kind of proud of that.' We've actually been through quite a bit. So... cool."

It has been reported on southparkstudios.com that the first episode of the tenth season, which premiers on wednesday at 10, will be about World of Warcraft. "The boys dedicate their lives to defeating a mad gamer and saving the World of Warcraft." As a person who is currently wasting their life away on WoW, i'm very excited about this... Parker and Stone always seem to take every topic and hit it spot on. I can't wait to see me and everyone I play with mocked for 22mins straight. \\:D/

This week's info:
1011: Hell on Earth 2006
Satan is throwing the biggest Halloween costume party ever in an all-new “South Park” entitled, “Hell on Earth 2006,” premiering Wednesday, October 25 at 10:00 p.m. on Comedy Central. And no one will be admitted without a wristband. Satan is busy checking the R.S.V.P. list and deciding what costume to wear to the big event. Every detail must be perfect for the Prince of Darkness. But even Satan can’t foresee everything. A prominent religious organization, an ex-lover and the antics of the most notorious serial killers of all time threaten Satan’s fun.

I've never really watched SP before. I've had countless people tell me about episodes, show me clips, etc., but I've never sat and watched a single episode before (when it first came on, just a bunch of kids swearing and farting came off really lame and unfunny). However, over the last few years, the things I've heard about it have made me laugh, so I just checked out the latest episode on Heap's link.
A black kid named "Token"?!   Fuckin' HILARIOUS! Maybe it's one of the rare shows that jumped the shark in reverse. What season would some of you hardcores say marked these two guys really finding their stride? That is, if I were to watch some of these things, which season would be best to start at? :tipofthecap:

You'd be crazy if you didn't eventually watch every single episode.
Mebbe start with Season 7, work your way up, then go back to earlier seasons. Southpark has definitely risen the bar over the years rather than pandering to a wider and/or dumber audience. Try to soak as much in as possible before this site goes under, as most do within a few weeks/months.

when SP first came out it wasnt very strong at all IMO. the shits pretty much random so you could start with the seasons 8, 9, or 10 first (if you like the newer stuff, these episodes should slay you)
a few that i can remember:
season 8
good times with weapons (jap animation style)
up and down steriod (cartman enters the special olympics)
season 9
die hippie die (cartman vs hippies)
ginger kids (red haired genocide)
bloody mary (stans dad blames everything on his alcoholism)
the losing edge (kids little league finals, stans dad has to fight all the other rival dads)
season 10
smug alert (hybrid cars and San Fran!)
make love not warcraft (all the kids get way too into warcraft)
miss teacher bangs a boy (hot teacher hooks up with kyles little brother ike, cartman becomes "the dog: bounty hunter" character when hes the hall moniter)
I'd also like to add this viewing tip: any episode involving Stan's dad is guaranteed gold.

I kinda missed the point they were trying to make with this episode... I guess it's that saying nigger is never appropriate or funny? Kinda the opposite of their usual stance.

I think they just have a different conclusion on the matter than we do nate. The FCC only has jurisdiction when it comes to over-the-air broadcasts - not cable. Comedy Central only has to answer to advertisers and South Park is so popular, one cry-baby sponsor can very easily be replaced.
The Larry

yeah, but still, Comedy Central can't air everything uncensored. They do have a Saturday night stash, various movies uncensroed, The South Park movie was the first one to be featured. When you think about it, South Park was what really gave Comedy Central popularity.

Thanks Larry, I'd tivo'd it for later, I'll enjoy it even more now that I'll know what is going to happen.
^^ditto^^
You clicked on a thread titled Southpark and didn't think there would be a spoiler? I have been avoiding this thread for two days until I could watch it last night. You guys get used to jumping on Larry for stupid shit, and usually he deserves it, but c'mon this is your fault.

I couldn't resist, sorry. POM, love that line in your sig, Towelie rocks, especially when he's stoned to da bone.
When you think about it, South Park was what really gave Comedy Central popularity.
Gee, ya think?

Tonight's episode should be good. All I'll say is, it's about Randy.

South Park to feature Guitar Hero.

This weekend, South Park will once again feature games front and center. "Guitar Queer-o" will see Stan and Kyle get into Activision's Guitar Hero game, which drives a wedge between the two when Kyle can't measure up to Stan's virtual virtuosity. The episode will premiere Wednesday night at 10 p.m. Pacific, no doubt followed by a Chapelle's Show-esque barrage of repeat airings until the following week's season finale.

Southpark is pretty good, don't follow it regulary though. As for being not afraid to take the sacred cows one can only point to the heat they give premier bush et.al.

Bump...
Season 12 starts this Wednesday, here's the info for the new ep:
The face of South Park could change forever when Eric Cartman is diagnosed with an incurable disease in the premiere episode, entitled “Tonsil Trouble.” When the support Cartman is counting on falls short, he has to take matters into his own hands.

Do a few on the webcam and see if we can guess em. It'll be like playing the homeless game on the Stern show.

Damn, what an awesome episode. Something tells me, this is going to be a great batch of episodes to look forward to.
On a more serious note, Cartman getting a botched blood transfusion and receiving aids because of it reminded me of a play I saw in High school called "the Yellow Boat" (http://www.applays.com/description%20CATALOGUE/title_description_Y.html), which is based on a true story.

I thought last night’s episode was one of the weaker ones since the episode when they were junior reporters for the school. Too preachy – made some good points about HIV not being a death sentence anymore as long as you have enough money but is was lacking something… oh yeah…. Humor….

I didn't get to see, but damn, that^ is a scathing review.

Yeah, I thought this last episode was kind of weak, too. I would say that it seemed like they didn't put as much effort into this one rather than too preachy.

If you guys would just be like Larry, and watch South Park mainly for the "poo-poo" jokes, I'm sure you'd be a lot happier with it.
