I've been on a Beatles kick the last few weeks. Which album do you like best?

I'm not answering until we hear Sav's expert musical opinion.

Hard to say. Toss up between Sgt. Peppers and Abbey Road.

I'm a Beatles nut, so get ready for a long-winded and unbelievably boring post, written for the sole purpose of me telling myself how great my fucking opinion is.
I voted for The White Album, though I think most of the Beatles albums are badly flawed, including that one. Sgt. Peppers is not that good; if they'd included "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "Penny Lane" it might be a different story, but no- they pulled them. Many of the songs on Peppers are shit, picked more for their (at the time) groundbreaking production qualities than for any other reason, so fuck Peppers. "Day in the Life" is a top 5 Beatles song, and while I like some other cuts on there, the rest of it is, generally speaking, soulless pap.
Pet Sounds is a perfect album, with not a single shit song or filler on it, but then again, the Beach Boys had 1.5 great albums in them, and 58 shitty ones. Every Beatles album was pretty fucking good, so I cut the Beatles some slack for shitty songs like, well, any song Ringo ever sang, or half of the smarmy ballads Paul wrote, or the George song on every album you tended to skip, or John's pretentious noise experiments, etc.
2nd: Revolver
3rd: Rubber Soul
4th: Magical Mystery Tour (not really an album, though...the songs are superior, but it's just not an album).
5th: Abbey Road
6th: Help!
7th: Every album before Help!..who knows the difference between them?
8th: Let It Be
9th: Yellow Submarine

I picked a sarcastic option just for you!
Looks like Sav's option is in the lead!

Tied with Pepper's. No WAY the joke option will win this one. Everybody likes some Beatles.

That's not true. I don't like the Beatles at all. They sang songs and made music. We all know how I feel about that shit.
I can't count how many pretentious whores I saw in college with "I am the walrus" patches safety-pinned to their backpacks. That only dialed up my hatred for the Beatles even more than I already had. And it hasn't gone down any since.

Don't like a single Beatles song? What music do you like, Heaps?
Huh? I thought maybe there was a Beatles song I dug, but thinking about it, I can't name one. I dunno where you're going with this, most of the stuff I like includes Bowie, Thin Lizzy, King Crimson, Motown, etc. And I've heard all the crap before..."if it weren't for the Beatles then there wouldn't have been <insert random band name here>..." Fuuuck that!

So that was how you spent the summer of '68? Holy shit, you're older than Bippy!

Tarantino addressed this in a deleted scene from Pulp Fiction. Mia Wallace asks Vincent if he's an Elvis man or a Beatles man. It's possible to "like" both, but you're predominately one or the other.
I'm an Elvis man. I've never heard a complete Beatles album because most of their stuff just doesn't connect with me. There's a few singles I dig, but I can't really vote for an album.

Have you ever noticed that this question seems to be subject to fashion? I remember a poll in the NME back in about '88, where it was decided that, yes, Sgt Pepper WAS the best Beatles album. Then, in Mojo or Uncut magazine in the mid 90's, there was a huge feature where musicians voted on which was best. It was Revolver.
Nowadays, the White album seems to be in vogue, which suits me, because it's always been my favourite.
I suppose it'll be Abbey Road next, before reverting right back to Please Please Me.

Cheaps, without the Beatles there would be no King Crimson. 21st Century Schizoid Man is just Good Morning Good Morning played a little slower and with three compressors and two distortion boxes. Hell, a baby knows that.
Is this thread real or just a way for Russ to gaffle a few more points? I think you've all been had.

So if I'm reading Booze right... Eventually there will be a decade where they get a bunch musicians together to vote on favorite Beatles albums, but they instead vote that The Beatles suck. Hopefully I'll still be alive when this happens.
