I know most of us have Blu-Ray players now, and I'm tellin' ya, not all the Blu-Rays what're comin' out are worth a shit. A thread for Blu-Ray recommendations and cautionary tales.

I was really fuckin' leery about buyin' any of these first-wave Kubrick Blu-Ray releases (the DVD set they rushed out after he died was dog shit). Well, it turns out (for openers) they remastered The Shining, and I grabbed it. Flipped it in yesterday and my jaw hit the floor. This fuckin' disc looks like the movie was shot on DV. It's UNREAL how fucking clean it looks. Amazing. Killer bonus featchums, too.

I ain't seen any of the other Kubrick flicks on BR yet, but I'm guessing they've all been carefully remastered, so I'm all over that shit (anyone seen any?).

America Werewolf In London was a real disappointment. It looks like a goddamn VHS transfer. I'm not down for buying ANY BR's what ain't been remastered (well, of movies through the mid '90s, anyway).

If you've seen or bought any dogshit flicks on BR, or any super fuckin' sweet ones, drop that shit here. I wants ta know. :tip:

After a few minutes of watching a blu ray movie I quit noticing the high resolution. I rented Wolverine the other day on standard dvd and to tell you the truth, it looked pretty damn good.

^^I've never seen it. I'm gonna watch it tomorrow, and maybe we can all talk about it on the site.

Back on topic, I need some home theater advice. The Cow's HT system crapped out last night, so I'm in the market for a new system.

Any suggestions?

Blu-ray is gonna go the way of the Beta-max. Get an HD player while you can.

Whatever you hardcore fans do, DON'T buy this first generation copy of Inglourious on Blu-Ray. They rushed that motherfucker out so fast for Xmas that I couldn't begin to count the problems with the print. HORRIBLE. Rent it -- DON'T buy it.

Okay, well Melon gives it a B+, but I still say rent it.

So, to replace my fried HTS I should find an old Magnavox. That would certainly solve the CD issue too.

Thanks for the help, 'gloids.

Dolby digital, THX, all that crap is 2001. Stereo is back baby! Get your red/white RCA cables while you can still find some!

If you watch IB, you'll find yourself using the "DSP Enhancer" on your receiver. All's I'm sayin'. Verno's right ... Prologic II & Stereo ... can I get a wha' wha'.

(Cow, this means you've gotta really work those two Bass & Treble knobs on your boombox what you've got connected to your Zenith.)

Ended up getting a Sony blu-ray. After 3 hours of f-bombs, beer and futile attempts at hooking the damn thing up to the sound system, I gave up and let junior Cow hook it up directly to the big screen. Fuck every asshole who left a review about how easy it was to hook up.

What's so hard about HDMI to TV, then from TV optical out to sound system?

Whaaa?

melon

It took you 3 hours to hook up a BLu-Ray player? This should give us material till mid 2012. :tip:

$20 says the kid didn't even have to look at the manual.

Et tu, Melon?

Like I've stated previously, I am a complete tech mess.

I had to read four posts of this horseshit, and not one mention of your cabana boy hookin' that silly shit up, Cow?

I let him go home for the holidays. After all, it's just wrong to see a guy in a thong at 25 degrees.

It's wrong to see a guy in a thong in any temperature.

Cow, I too have the Sony Blu-Ray. It is obviously the superior product for such an item since they are the folks what make Blue-Ray. Hell, I don't think there's a goddamn thing they do wrong. Well, 'cept the online features for the PS3... Or so I've heard.

Dr. P
01-02-2010, 09:07 PM
Is Blu-Ray the superior product that got beat out, kinda like Beta Max was?

The Sav
01-02-2010, 09:24 PM
What? Huh? No? Where? When? Who? How?

You're bullshitting me. Or you're trying to. There's no way that a guy like you doesn't know what's what in the world of HD. You like watching football, right? You have HD, right? You like watching movies, right?

If you answered "yes" to all questions, then you ALREADY know what a blu-ray is, does, and can do.

Dr. P
01-02-2010, 09:26 PM
I watch an HD tele and watch football in HD, yeah. But I haven't seen Blu-Ray, nor do I know shit about it, except there were two HD platforms and one of 'em won.

The Sav
01-02-2010, 09:32 PM
Okay... Because you're my pal, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you're not trying to nutz me with this Blu-Ray horseshit...

There's was HD/DVD (Toshiba) and Blu-Ray (Sony)... Blu-Ray won the war and is now the sole provider of all that is high-definition discs.

Dr. P
01-02-2010, 09:48 PM
Sweet! They're much cheaper, too!
