I have been saving up to grab me a netbook this summer. I want a small comp that I can haul around easier than my wife's laptop. I have no qualms about linux, xp, or any other operating system, so long as it can stream some porn, er, hulu. It will be mainly for surfing, I have a desktop for fancy stuff.
Do any of you people have one? Any suggestions?
It'd be interesting to see what kind of specs these new netbooks will have. I've got a 5.5 year old laptop, 4.5 year old desktop, and a 4 year old laptop that I use for work that's all slow as shit, and I bet these new netbooks have more resources than what I have, combined. The only disadvantage I've heard about the netbooks is that they are only cheap because you get charged an arm and a leg for "wireless" broadband. Fuck that.

Some of the carriers are offering super low prices with broadband contracts, but I don't want to access from anywhere but my home network.
There are netbooks that have bigger hard drives than either my desktop or our laptop, and more RAM. I kinda want a simple one though.
ZZF (http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=10010284&prodlist=celebros) has an Acer Aspire for 240 if you can get them in stock, but I don't know anything about the brand, or a single person that has owned one.

I was looking at a cute lil' $300 netbook at Best Buy today...there must have been a typo 'cause the sales tag claimed it had a 160 GB hard drive. Bullshit.

Most of the recent ones have a 160GB HDD.
I bought this Acer 10.1" (http://tinyurl.com/d6khz3) for $300 and added some memory and upgraded the drive to a faster 320GB.

Interesting, deej. I just assumed they all had smaller flash drives. With that size HD, those seem like a really good deal. I spent more than that on a used Powerbook with about the same specs that just took a big shit (motherboard) two days ago.

i keep telling myself to hold off to see if apple enters the netbook market, then i remember that i dont need a $5000 netbook...
i use my iphone and that comes close to the gap between cellphone/notebook but not quite.
an interesting thing id want to try would be to install os x on an msi wind or acer.
if you try and do that, dont use a solid state drive as the primary HDD. from what i hear it is the suck.

I have to hide all of my Booze Pr0n somewhere.
VDSteve- I have seen multiple netbooks hacked to include apple's os. Spending a bazillion dollars to make Steve Jobs richer is not happening for me.

Whoa, waitaminute... Why does VDSteve think that Netbooks cost $5000? I just went to Best Buy yesterday and all of their Netbooks were between $300 and $700... And this is at an outfit that's known for overpricing everything in their stores!
I think he meant that if Apple made a netbook, it'd cost an arm and a leg.
