As expected, it's happened today. Sirius and XM have not merged. It's a takeover. Where the XM name is the same in the channel lineup, it's still Sirius programming. Most of the channels have changed names and converted over to Sirius programming. Sirius programming sucks.
The eclectic/obscure stuff is gone (Acid Jazz, The System, Fine Tuning, etc.) Like Sirius, XM is now more like regular radio - less variation in the music mix and more talking.
It looks like they've left Deep Tracks alone. Cinemagic is a holiday channel until the New Year, but then the movie scores start back again. That's the only bright spot I can find so far.
Very disappointing.

I was *just* gonna fuckin' ask you about this, Diddy, on accounna all the billions of XM emails I get (I can't read 'em all).
I found the best "current" music on XMU, so please tell me they didn't nuke THAT, and I pray they left fucking FRED alone!!!
Belasco
11-12-2008, 10:31 AM
That was the "new wave" station right? The name "Fred" is gone. It's now Sirius's channel "1st Wave" on fred's channel 44. It's still listed as the 70's & 80's Alternative genre.
Spooner

Fuck me, I'm done. 1st Wave blew ASS compared to Fred. Fred played WAY deeper New Wave cuts (Suburban Lawns; rare Heaven 17 tracks; shit that was played late-nights by Rodney on the Rock...). 1st Wave was just Top 40 "New Wave"---you could hear the fucking Cars on it (don't get my wrong; they're one of my favorite all-time pop bands, but c'mon).
This is a big fuckin' loser of a deal, and I'm stuck with it in my goddamn ride. Thank God I'm pumping up my Zune. Now, if only I could stream Pandora into my ride...

I think XMU is one of 5 or so music stations that Sirius left alone.
The others appear to be Cinemagic (back after the New Year), Deep Tracks, Bluesville, and Liquid Metal. Even the decades channels are now the Sirius decades channels. Lots of the talk stuff was left alone and a few new Sirius exclusive channels were added like Elvis, Springsteen, Grateful Dead, Jam Bands (why is there a Jam Band AND Grateful Dead channel??!?!?), and Margaritaville.
There's other new stuff in genres I consistently ignore.

Okay, fuck! We carry my old man and just cut off a friend after a one-year subscription gift (can't cut off the old man), and we killed one of our two accounts. I still have my receiver. I'm going to shitcan every account but the old man's, yank my receiver off my dash (FINALLY) and just listen to Stern in my car from now on through XM. I'd rather pay the extra four fish than justify keeping a whole account alive when my dolly barely drives.

Ron & Fez used their show opening today to express how they feel about the Sirius takeover of XM programming.

"Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, hear the lamentations of their women."

And I was SOOO fuckin' stoked when you got me dialed in, man. Their music was FAR fucking superior... LIGHT YEARS better than the lazy-ass, choady-ass Sirius programming. Sirius was like having about 20 23-year-old scrubs thinking they were "hip" and packing in a lot of predictable and lame horseshit (I would actually hear the SAME SONG on my way BACK from the office--when I had one--and on the WAY HOME!!). That's INSANE!!
XM actually hired REAL programmers with serious breadth and depth of musical literacy and knowledge. I don't remember ever hearing the same song in one day, and I'll never forget rolling on a breezy summer day with the lid open on my car, cranking "Into the Mystic" on XM. It made my fuckin' DAY. Them days are sure fuckin' over.
Thank God I've got my Zune, 'ah?
**Speaking of Van--I'm upgrading my catalog, and I can't find SHIT for "A Period of Transition." If anyone has this and wants to trade, there's little I ain't got in return. You name it. PM my ass. :tip:

It's not unexpected. The stock is at $0.25 - there's mountains of debt that still needs to be refinanced. They have to go more mainstream for broader appeal. I hope they get back to niche programming when/if the dust settles.
I miss SpecialX (general Dr. Demento weird programming) and On The Rocks (Rat Pack Lounge music). Thems were the days...

I refuse to pretend that I know what SiriusXM is all about or how it works, but my brother does.
He just released free software which allows one to stream SiriusXM over your cell. Stern mentioned him today.
Anyway, if you want to check it out, you can take a peek at geekstoolbox.com, which is also a site he developed. Lots of stuff there, some of which may appeal to you guys. I don't believe you need to register in order to get the plethora of geek he's compiled
Much of it he has written himself. The kid's a go'damn genius freak. Remind me to tell you about the CD burner he made about 5 years before they even came out on the market from spare computer parts he had jammed in one of his bedroom closets. My mother was convinced someone would find out and he'd go to jail.
That's right, I'm proud of the little fukker.

I don't know, BYP. He has developed all sorts of software for all kinds of companies worldwide, as well as stuff for personal use. More than likely you're benefitting from some type of software he's done or debugged at one time or another.
*I just took a look. Yes, he created StarPlayr/Sirius WM5. Here is the thread announcing it. (http://forums.geekstoolbox.com/showthread.php?t=8929) If you ever need help, or you need to check for an update, go to geekstoolbox.com and he'll be happy to help you with it.*

I hate weed 'cause my brain's already way too intense and tortured to throw THC into it (then I start imaging I'm Beans, and I live in Florida, and it just escalates from there). Nope, not a weed guy. BUT, the weed in the pill form ostensibly gives you the cleanest high, and it's all the way legal in Seattle. It's hard to smoke, as the smoke is very irritating, so you don't get as much off them that way (and it's hard to even GET the actual good chemical stuff from smoking it). I hear tell you have to chew it (mucous membranes blah blah).

Seriously, my brain is a delicate and robust piece of organic machinery (as you guys can all tell from my slappy posts), and it and weed don't hit it off. Weed to me would be like a four-hour dinner date at a beaner restaurant with Dirty Pool.
Dr. Feelgood (the best in the state) hooked me up with a PHAT new stash of emergency Zannies (in his words: "almost a shitload") -- 90 1mg Wilsons (slaps four in piehole with two fingers, w/the dry swallow of a veteran: SMACK! SLURP! "Mmmmmmmmmm good.... REALLLLL good.... SMELLLS good.... TASTES good.... IS good").
He also gave me this newer shit to chill my anxiety WAY down without burning out on benzos (your body metabolizes ANY of 'em in one week, and then you could swallow a bottle and not feel a thing--thass the problem w/benzos--not to mention the 10- 14-day kick afterwards; worse than Trainspotting). So this new shit is Buspirone (15mg) and you have to ease into it over two weeks. Then I got a stash of beta blockers which will keep me from giving the finger to every fucking soccer mom and fruity dad I see in ANY SUV here every goddman day.
I'll give updates as needed. :tip:

Never have gained tolerance to Xanax. I take it for severe panic/anxiety.
I'm on .5 mg, 3x daily. However, it knocks me out. So, because I tend to panic at night when I try to go to sleep, I take 1 mg at bedtime.
Now, my mom tends to gain tolerance to some meds, which is a bitch because it's really hard to tell until her symptoms start getting really bad again. Then starts the scramble to find another med, then the wean on/wean off time period which is hell for her.

Whoaahhhhhhhh, daddy. Not only will I *not* EVER take this fucking nightmare of a drug again, I'll be flushing 'em down the TERLET. I took my first half around the time I first posted about it yesterday. It felt like I did 10 REALLY BAD whip-hits. The doctor goes, "You'll feel really dizzy for about 20 minutes until you get used to it." Bulllllllllshit.
Then I heard this ringing in my head that wouldn't go away for about an hour (this was the first half intro into my body). I tried six ways to sunset to tell this guy, "BUDDY, it's my BODY that's got the jitters all day, NOT my BRAIN!" Researching more (at the grand waking hour of 4:05AM), this is purely to "calm the brain," (read: make your cerebral reflex slow and clumsy... like Beans, or Ed when he gets REALLY bad shit-weed). I had taken the 2nd half of this bitch last night around 10:30PM and I'M STILL hearing this "Shrrrrrrshhhk shrrrrrshhhk" sound in me 'ead, like a snake moving through sand.
FUCK - THAT - DRUG! DOWN THE TERLET. I'll try the beta blockers (much more logical) and cruise the Zannies only at night to put my dumb white ass OUT. (And this was just two hours after two 20-minute steambaths at the gym... shit wakes me up at 4?!!!!) :killme: <-----*Edit: Did I *really* use that gay thing? Now that you mention it, I do vaguely remember the dizzyness factor of it all. It's a med I took samples of like 10 years ago, so it's a very distant memory in my head. I just recall it didn't help me in the area of sleep or anxiety at all and that I haven't seen any docs (well, the kind I work with at least) prescribe it for about 6 or 7 years now. Glad you took it during the weekend and not on a work night!
I'm still on the search for a doctor to switch to come a couple of months from now when I'm out of Ambien all because the chubby doctor thinks they aren't good for me. Might switch to the guy my boss switched to. He kept her on the Xanax that her previous doc had been prescribing for years. That's a good sign.

Lemme tell ya, Taco--I'm no stranger to the world of pharmacopoeia truth be told (though the mostly recreational days are well behind me). Ambien, especially CR (which I'm sure you're on; and I'd wager you're up to two per night due to the immunity factor)... you're gonna kick like a fucking MULE for at LEAST 10 to 14 days, and it'll be two weeks before your body will return you to normalized sleep.
That shit's in a different "class," but has the same side effects as anyone taking benzos as long as you have to "get to sleep." I know insomnia, sister, and it ain't no soft kiss, but you better take all your vacation time, go see a supplement doctor, stock up, take steam baths, and dry out or you're gonna be writhing with RLS and in a world of hurt till your body flushes god knows how many hundreds of Ambien you've got nestled in your fat cells, organs, and bone marrow. Have fun!!! lmao

No sleeping pills are meant to be taken as a "maintenance drug," Llama (in case you're gettin' any Taco-style ideas). All's I'm sayin' is I want front- (well, SECOND-) row seats when you finally either get cut off or decide it's time to get to the source of what keeps you up at night.
Imagine TACO in the Trainspotting detox apartment, with porn, more porn, and LOTSA porn... Dinty Moore Beef Stew, and watch as she starts seeing dead babies crawling on her ceiling. Oh, man... maybe not tomorrow; maybe not next month; but sooner than later you're gonna get margin-called on that. PM me when you do. :tip:
