I figured I'd let the Ipod thread die since all I'm asking/talking about is the Zune now. So here's my question: does anyone podcast a radio show that is broken into segments? If so, how do you get them to play into one another? I get the Adam Carolla show, and after each segment 5-15 minutes, the player stops and I have to manually start the next one. I'm sure this is a common setting I've overlooked, but can't find it.

Create a playlist.
Next?
lmao
Seriously. That's it. Or, Russ, what *I* like to do (like audiobooks that are broken into 8 million 2-minute files) is append them all in Adobe Audition (you can use Audacity--free--to do this, too), and make one giant file out of 'em. Then load that bitch onto yer Zunie.

So I create a playlist, then what? The show automatically downloads under Podcasts, where does a playlist come in? All my albums play sequentially without ending at each song, you'd think a podcast would too.

Just talked to DJ: You can't make playlists out of podcasts. He leans that I might ought take this back for the 120 Ipod.

I agree with DJ. Take it back. Like I said earlier, if most of your usage is Podcasts (especially subscription stuff, etc.), then don't get the Zune (you can still check out Creative, though, and still avoid iTunes overwriting your shit). Just research that shit a little.
Also, I mentioned the Zune was more for tunes ripped high 'cause it has no internal EQ, and for badly recorded audiobooks and shitty-mixed podcasts, you NEED an EQ.
Get rid of that fucker, but don't hop back into iTunes so quickly w/out carefully researching how Creative handles this shit. Everyone's Pods are busting around here. I'd be FREAKED to go buy another one.

Sorry, I can't quote on this site...
B, the only thing I do differently than every other motherfucker with an Ipod is play it 12 hours a day on average. I used to abuse them on job sites, what with banging 'em into things all the time. But never had one break from dropping or such. It's just constant use and re-loading everything in it. I do REALLY wanna keep this Zune for music's sake. I'll know in a day or three.

^^There she is. I thought you died.
Hmmm. I'd probably go with Zune if my Sansa kicks it, or if I suddenly need more gigs. When you guys refer to "quality" headphones, can you give examples? The last pair of earbuds that I bought had some rubber things instead of that foam piece of shit that always come loose. Well, I lost the one of the rubber earpiece things after listening in bed---and guess what? You can't buy those fucking rubber earpiece things, ANYWHERE. So I'm using some old earbuds that are pretty uncomfortable, but I'm not willing to drop some cash quite yet on new 'buds.

Booze recommended a set what gets consistently top reviews in all tech magazines I read. They're about $59 and cancel out ALL noise around you--you "can 'ear yer 'eart beat" with 'em on.
He may see this and drop the link, 'cause I forget the name. They sounded killer, but didn't work out for me because I couldn't lay down on a pillow with 'em. For snoozing, Heaps, I would *always* go with the basic $19 Sony wraparounds. I buy six pairs a year (no bullshit)---the wire is what always ends up twisting over the weeks/months and then one channel invariably blows out.
But, for the price, those sure did sound pretty fuggin' good.

I, too, still have the monochrome 20 gb iPod with the purple backlight. Works great.
P, I'd suggest a flash-based iPod, like the 32 gb Touch. I have an 8 gb iPhone that I've dropped 30+ times, even on concrete, and neither the screen or player has fuckered up. And I listen to about 3 hours of podcasts a day for 8 months on this thing and no hiccups yet.

I want that Touch, dammit. If I can get one at a good deal, I'm on it. My old one might get stripped of the iPod firmware and loaded up with the Open Source Rockbox (http://www.rockbox.org/) firmware. Have you tried Rockbox by chance, Coach?

^^Hooo-leeee-shiiiit.
I will say this: I still have my first generation 5GB iPod, and the only thing wrong with it is that the firewire charger port (female) has grown loose like an old French whore and you have to tape the cable down to get a charge or transfer files. That thing *is* a tank, but so is the first 30GB Zen I have (B&W display).

- While the rumor mill is focused on Apple developing a larger-screen iPod touch, the blogosphere is churning with angry reports about frozen 30GB Microsoft Zunes.
Discussions board like ZuneUser.com, ZuneScene.com and Zune.net offer first-hand accounts of the problems with Microsoft's music player. It seems the Zunes reboot, then freeze once the status bar reaches 100 percent.
Some are calling it the "Z2K" problem, playing off the infamous Y2K bug that many thought would throw the computing industry in chaos at the beginning of the century when dates changed from 1999 to 2000. That's because the problem seems to have started at exactly midnight PST Wednesday -- the first moments of the last day of 2008.
A Fix That Fails
Microsoft wasn't immediately available for comment on what observers are calling the Zune 30 Midnight Meltdown. But the forums are ablaze with complaints and demands for updates from Microsoft.
"I had my Zune docked on its iHome ZN9, charging, and all the sudden I hear it start whirring as I'm sitting here at the laptop. I looked up just in time to see it restarting itself at exactly 12:00 midnight, watched the loading bar, and then the freeze. Great. WHAT is going on!?" VS Venom Shot wrote on the Zune.net forum.
Meanwhile, a Zune.net user named Dmodegirl claims to have solved the problem. She said the Zune needs a "hard reset" and suggested using a small screwdriver to pop off the plastic shielding where the Zune cable plugs in and remove the two screws on either side of the plug.
"Pop the cover off and locate the battery plug at the top left corner of the Zune. Using your screwdriver, pop the cable connection halfway off, and do this to the other plug on the right side," she wrote. "Wait three seconds, then push down the right connector and then the left battery connector. Your Zune should start up immediately. Press the backing of the Zune down (make sure headphone jack is aligned) and put the screws and cover back in place."
Some users reported success with this method, but when they plugged their Zune back in to charge, it froze again. Others were concerned with trying the hard reset for fear of turning the Zune into a fancy paperweight. Still others are hinting that Microsoft should compensate Zune users with a free Zune Pass.
A Black Eye for Zune
"This problem is something that never should have made it out of testing. I've been with the Zune Pass since day one and I'm seriously looking into other devices and services due to this. We at least need some kind of acknowledgment or statement from MS that clarifies the issue and puts in place a plan of action," a user named Furious Mittens wrote on the Zune.net forum.
Those comments aren't something Microsoft wants to hear. Indeed, frozen Zunes after the holiday shopping season is not welcome news, according to Phil Leigh, a senior analyst at Inside Digital Media.
"Microsoft has got to close the ground on the iPod, and the only way to do that is with a superior product," Leigh said. "It takes time to recover from something like this. First impressions are important for new buyers, and this is a bad first impression."

Oh, Christ. There's only one thing worse than Microsoft: iTunes. I'd still rather have a fucked-up 30GB that only plays HALF the time, than having to use iTunes for an iPod that works ALL the time. That's how bad iTunes is to me.
(Thank god I bought the 120GB... /quack)

My Ipod is all "washed up" as in went through the washer and dryer. Unbelievably the hard drive had all the data on it, but it will not play.
Does the Zune allow you to load a movie NOT purchased through their service?

http://forums.zune.net/412486/ShowPost.aspx
Early this morning we were alerted by our customers that there was a widespread issue affecting our 2006 model Zune 30GB devices (a large number of which are still actively being used). The technical team jumped on the problem immediately and isolated the issue: a bug in the internal clock driver related to the way the device handles a leap year. The issue should be resolved over the next 24 hours as the time change moves to January 1, 2009. We expect the internal clock on the Zune 30GB devices will automatically reset tomorrow (noon, GMT). By tomorrow you should allow the battery to fully run out of power before the unit can restart successfully then simply ensure that your device is recharged, then turn it back on. If you’re a Zune Pass subscriber, you may need to sync your device with your PC to refresh the rights to the subscription content you have downloaded to your device.
Customers can continue to stay informed via the support page on zune.net (zune.net/support).
We know this has been a big inconvenience to our customers and we are sorry for that, and want to thank them for their patience.
Q: Why is this issue isolated to the Zune 30 device?
It is a bug in a driver for a part that is only used in the Zune 30 device.
Q: What fixes or patches are you putting in place to resolve this situation?
This situation should remedy itself over the next 24 hours as the time flips to January 1st.
Q: What’s the timeline on a fix?
The issue Zune 30GB customers are experiencing today will self resolve as time changes to January 1.
Q: Why did this occur at precisely 12:01 a.m. on December 31, 2008?
There is a bug in the internal clock driver causing the 30GB device to improperly handle the last day of a leap year.
Q: What is Zune doing to fix this issue?
The issue should resolve itself.
Q: Are you sure that this won’t happen to all 80, 120 or other flash devices?
This issue is related to a part that is only used in Zune 30 devices.
Q: How many 30GB Zune devices are affected?
All 30GB devices are potentially affected.
Q: Will you update the firmware before the next leap year (2012)?
Yes.
