Exactly... I'll vote for McCain but it won't matter because Washington State will hand it's electorate over to Obama.

Not voting just because our only two choices are lame, is not the answer. Unfortunately, people need to look at these two candidates and decide what who they like better and vote for that person. No perfect candidate will ever emerge and overwhelm the people with popular politics... not in today's world.

If you don't like McCain or Obama, that's cool. But not voting because you don't like them, is very uncool. Vote for someone.... vote for Hillary, vote for Micky Mouse, vote for the fringe party wackjobs.... Just vote.

I will not vote for McCain, but I will cast my ballot against Barry.

I'm in the same boat. I don't really want McCain, but I REALLY don't want Obama. I reluctantly voted for Bush (twice) for the same pathetic reason.

Bush hasn't been a good President and history will probably rank him amongst the worst. However, I'm still glad that it was eight years of him instead of eight years of President Gore, or four years of President Kerry for that matter.

I feel exactly the same way about McCain if he wins. He'll do nothing for our country, yet I'll be glad to know it's him instead of Obama.

But ultimately I don't think it will matter one way or the other. Both of them suck and both of them will go into the job at a time when our nation is so fucked up, that neither of them will get anything back on track. Whomever it is will only last one term. If McCain wins, liberals will be so fucking angry that they will galvanize like never before and make goddamn sure that Hillary or Barrack win in 2012.

The only upside to Obama winning, is that Hillary will never become President if he wins. She'll have to wait until 2016 to run again and she'll be 69 years old and almost unelectable by that point.

She's right to a certain extent... Supreme Court nominations, foreign policy decisions, economic oversight, taxes, etc. All are influenced and/or determined by a President's politics.

Sure... the day to day bullshit will never change. Bills are sent through congress, president cock-blocks congress and vetoes the bill- congress then cock-blocks President with super majority vote. Policies with other nations are pretty much in the hands of advisors and diplomats. Economic issues fall under the jurisdiction of the Fed and various committees of congress. However it's the broad reaching stuff that a President does- the big things that make a difference. The kind of things that effect how our leaders lead for decades.

Reps should have picked better candidates. You think JD McCain is gonna make the country safer or end abortion or shrink government? You think Barack Osama is gonna give you health care, only tax the wealthiest, or "change" a goddamn thing? Really? Fuck NO. The only difference in these two administrations will occur in the first 100 days, after that it's all running for the mid-term elections, after that it's all running for reelection.
And I fucking hate Joe Biden and this bible thumping whore from Alaska, listening to them has pretty much sealed the deal for me staying home.

BAREFOOT BAY -- A sign in one man's front yard has stirred up a controversy in his community.

Neighbors of Andy Lacasse said the sign, which reads "Obama Half-Breed Muslin [sic]," breaches the fine line between free speech and inappropriateness.

"I got nothing good to say about Obama," Lacasse told News 13. "If I see anybody touching that sign, I got a club sitting right over there."

Except for Austin, Texas is all-in for McCain. Hell, you could have mistaken the ACL Festival this weekend for a 3-day Obama-rama. If this were a swing state I'd probably vote, but as it is my vote won't matter anyway so I'm staying home.

Mr. Irrelevant

Yeah Russ, I too read your "reasons" for not voting... I gotta say that those were strawman reasons. Why? Because I doubt you stayed home for Bush vs. Gore or Bush vs. Kerry. You voted for whomever and both were pretty similar to what's being put up there now.

I don't really have a good reason for why you SHOULD vote, but I will say that there will be a day that none of our votes matter. So don't take it for granted while they do (even if it seems like it doesn't).

I will end up casting my vote for McCombover because I think he's the better choice between two horrible choices. My vote won't matter because I live in a state where you're considered a hardcore Neo-Con if you don't support a women's "right" to have doctor shove an icepick into a baby's skull moments after it's head has crested from her vagina.

Will the fact that Washington has been a Blue state since 1988 prevent me from voting? No.

I dunno... it's not like I don't see your point, because I absolutely do. I just think it's a shame that we have come to a point where people base their decision to vote (or not vote) on whether it will "count" or not.

That goes double for you, Belasco.

You've good reason to be especially cynical this time around, there isn't even the pretense in the media of being objective this time around. Heck even the russkies are saying it. arrrgh.

Russia's Central Elections Committee has also assigned its Centre for the Study of Election Technology to review the U. S. election campaign.

A preliminary report prepared by the group, after studying U. S. media coverage on the NBC, CBS and ABC television networks since September, has concluded Barack Obama, the Democratic presidential candidate, has a "hidden advantage."

As opposed to that bastion of truth and accountability, Palin. Right, JD?

So... are you endorsing bad behavior by pointing out the bad behavior of others?

I'm guilty of this too, we all are, but why is it that whenever someone points out that John Kerry is a flip-flopper or Joe Biden is a liar (or some other generic example), someone is always there to say... "Well Bush is a BIGGER liar and McCain flip-flops just as much" (or some other generic example)?

Did you even watch the video? I personally think that Biden wasn't "lying" per se. I think he's just towing the line for his campaign. But the fact is, is that he said that Obama was not going to "spread the wealth" even though Obama HAS SAID that he would "spread the wealth" not once, not twice, but several times.

What does that particular issue have anything to do with Sarah Palin and her various half-truths/lies? Answer: nothing.

Belasco
10-26-2008, 12:03 PM
So... are you endorsing bad behavior by pointing out the bad behavior of others?

Nope.

My point is that it does no good to point out when one side lies. Every one of them are full of shit and don't deserve to be elected.

Between the candidates and the media, a large portion of the electorate have been fooled into thinking of this election as one party against another - good vs. bad. In reality, it's special interest vs. the individual and none of the politicians are on the individuals side.

I love that "neither" is leading the pack here. I wish the national results would turn out that way.

I'm reminded of the Richard Pryor movie "Brewster's Millions".

For those that don't know:
Brewster (Pryor) is given a 30 million dollar inheritance by a very distant relative. He is given the opportunity to turn it into 300 million if he can spend the 30 million in 30 days and hold no assets.

The real genius move was when Pryor decided to get into the local NY election. In order to blow some big money he ran not as himself, but as "None of the Above". "None of the Above" won. I wish that would happen for real.

Belasco - I seem to remember that you generally are/vote Libertarian? Are you finding this same issue in Texas with Libertarian candidates?

I don't think Bob Barr is all that Libertarian myself, so on a national level that rules him out. The local Libs are ok, I guess. I'm sure by-in-large they tow the party line. All-in-all it's still Texas. Texas is red except for the little oasis of blue that is Austin. My vote won't matter and I'm taking the George Carlin approach and staying home.

See, I know I'm terribly dense, but I would expect folks being endorsed by the party or running under the party name would actually hold the same views as the party. I don't get it, and usually I shrug and move on but right now it's making me really mad. =(

I voted out most of the incumbents because I'm probably an idiot, but I like shit getting rotated in and out, like produce and dated-canned goods, and coffee.

Schoolboards, no one seems to give a shit about, so since I don't know where any of those guys stand on proper science education, no one got my vote. Does anyone besides the PTA ever know about any of thsoe guys?

This morning anyone that would have run on the Coffee Roaster/Quicker Medical Treatment Rather Than Waiting for Tests and Labs ticket probably would have gotten my vote. Who are the other six communists on this poll here?!! Stand up and show yourselves! We already know about TaCommie, but who else is voting for an inexperienced, verbally bumbling darkie with an education and apparent IQ that I would definitely call into question right about now.

VOTE QUIMBY!!... I mean McCain!! SFJ was FOUNDED on the socially conservative, non-religious principles of the GOP! Where's fuckin' Moneymaker when ya need him!!!! (That Klan rally has GOT to be over by now.)

'Maker is here at work pouting. Got passed over for a promised promotion today AND sent in my property taxes.

I am leaving work early to vote becasue my polling place will be full since everyone in my precinct is white (i.e. they have jobs).

Though the person I voted for has absolutely no chance, I still can't help but think about the huge gut-laugh I would have over Obama losing. I live for crushed hopes and shattered dreams and this would be a global heartbreak. The shocked faces and tears would be priceless. Still, the Republicans deserve to lose big in both houses and the presidency. It'll hurt financially, but nothing else is going to wake them up and bring them back to the ideas of smaller, less-intrusive government. Hopefully, some young Goldwater-esque candidate will show up and not be in the pocket of the nutbag religious wing of the party.

We need what P.J. O'Rourke calls a Republican Party Reptile:

The Platform of the Republican Party Reptiles:

“I think our agenda is clear. We are opposed to: government spending, Kennedy kids, seat-belt laws, busing our children anywhere other than Yale, trailer courts near our vacation homes, all tiny Third World countries that don’t have banking secrecy laws, aerobics, the UN, taxation without tax loopholes, and jewelry on men. We are in favor of: guns, drugs, fast cars, free love (if our wives don’t find out), a sound dollar, and a strong military with spiffy uniforms.

“There are thousands of people in America who feel this way, especially after three or four drinks. If all of us would unite and work together, we could give this country. . . well, a real bad hangover.”

I can't believe this asshole is actually going to win the election! Well... I can believe it, but I can't believe that so many people are voting for this empty suited fraud.

Wow, I guess the rest of the world was right afterall... Americans are stupid. I mean, if this were 1992 and Clinton had even a FRACTION of the Obama's socialist ideas, a FRACTION of Obama's studdering, a FRACTION of Obama's shoddy social policy ethics, and even a FRACTION of the bad connections to radical freaks, terrorists, and haters of America; Pappy Bush would have wiped the electoral floor with Clinton's ass. It would have made the Reagan vs. Mondale electoral landslide, look like a close race.

I cannot believe that America has come to a point where we'd want a guy who will "spread the wealth" so we don't have to pay a mortgage or work hard... or even work at all. Yeah, there's always a rich guy around the corner who will be FORCED to take care of us.... right? Christ!

Listen carefully kids....

The reason why socialism doesn't work is because the best of intentions never do. Socialism is about making everything "fair". And Obama has done a great job at over-simplifying that issue. The problem is that when the wealthy are forced to pick up the slack for the poor, the wealthy cease to remain wealthy. Or.... they're forced to be the slaves of the "equal patrol government" and either have their assets ripped away, or they have to kiss ass and/or bribe officials. The super rich do akay because they are given positions of power in other areas in exchange for their money. But the middle class become poor and the poor become slaves. Eventually, socialism gives way to full-blown communism much like HIV paves the way for The AIDS. And ehen communism takes root, everyone is a slave in one respect or another.

I don't believe that Obama is a closet communist. But his rise to power will pave the way for a more tolerant view of socialist values. America can't just keep printing money and our government can't continue to pay for some poor black bitch who's too lazy to properly take care of her kids with an ernest job. So.... when the money runs out, then what? She'll still need help, right? But there's no money left to help her? So what happens? She either dies, or she becomes a slave.... again, lol.

The Electoral College was setup because the founders didn't trust the public to elect the President. The reasons why are numerous. Are there seriously people here who think Palin had a negative effect on the preponderance of voters who would have allegedly voted for McCain? Taco? Russ? Seriously?

She energized the base! A base, I'll remind you, that wasn't too keen on McCain when he was going in. If either one of you two voted against him because of her... Well, that's sad.

Not only is it sad, but it's ill educated. I'd expect better from either one of you on this one. If we all used THAT logic, then Gore should have easily won in 2000. And THAT'S exactly why we vote for/against the guy who's running for President, not his running mate.

Belasco's right, it wasn't Palin that lost it for McCain, it was Bush, the economy and the Republicans acting like Democrats.
