Super Disc Read Error Bros. Brawl

So, my mom got me a copy of Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Wii as a bday present and gave it to me today. Naturally I threw it right in only to see Disc Read Error. Popped it out, back in. Same deal. Tested other games, all worked fine. Upon examination of the disc, it had weird wavy lines on it that none of my other games had. I figured this was the defect.
8pm I go back to where she got it with the receipt. Half an hour later I'm on my way home with a fresh copy. I examined the swapped copy right in the store and saw no wavy line things.
Get the game home, pop it in. Disc read error.
Ok... seriously now. What the fuck.
I figure now is a good time to do some research on this, so I surf the interporns and find the answer:
SSBB uses dual layer teknologeez that "dirty or dusty lenses" will not read. In other words, it's a console problem.

Yeah they say specifically not to try to clean it yourself. I guess it's alright that mine is getting sent in, as it makes a godawful racket when a game disc spins. It sounds like a fuckin jet engine. Hopefully they fix that, or just swap us out a new console.

This red ring business is crazy. Even brand new elites with redesigned mobos and cooling systems are getting red ringed by the thousands every day.

I'm not sure whether to get GTA4 for the 360 now. I'm afraid a few marathon sessions will almost surely red ring the fucker. Thing is Microsoft have the exclusive DLC on GTA.

As long as they have online multiplayer and good 3rd-party designer profit sharing, I really think that's what the market needs... What's the problem with the PS3? The price has come down, and technically it seems superior to the XBOX 360...plus it has a blu-ray player...is their online gaming shit or what?

PS3 is just, I dunno... it's sort of like what the Mini-Disc is/was. Yeah, it's kinda cool, maybe the graphics are slightly better, but that's where it stops. The 360, as has been mentioned here many times, just has a selection of games on an order of MAGNITUDE better than the PS3, and the PS3 online multiplayer community, from all I've heard, is like a The Swede thread, basically (even though I dug the The Swede thread). :tip:

Nah i doubt that but prolonged sessions could easily cause it to overheat.

Yer not going to find an alternative to the 360 that'll match their online service right now. I'd definitely stick with it for the time being.

The ps3 has its own strengths though. There's a lot of open standards across the platform. They've allowed keyboard/mouse support and mods into their Unreal Tournament 3 game. So this means there's brand new maps and gameplay mods popping up daily which you can download through the ps3's own web browser. The online service isn't as good but you can join or send invites to games, voice chat etc. Gameplay wise there's little to no lag. Its not exactly a million miles behind xbox live to be honest and its free.

Its also hitting its stride in terms of games now too. Metal Gear Solid 4, Wipeout HD, Gran Turismo 5 and GTA4 are all out in the next 3 months. Also the fact that its quiet and doesn't break shouldn't be a redeeming feature but it is.

The 360 has got some good games comin too but their lineup doesn't look anywhere near as strong as it was last year.

Forza 2, Bioshock, Halo3, COD4, Orange Box...i don't think any system will EVER hit a sweet spot release run like that again anytime soon.
