Any of you Mac Jews have one of these yet? Work forces me to have virtual access to almost everything on my PC on the road, in my car, wherever the fuck. I used to have the Microsoft DASH (T-Mobile) and though it was the best at the time, it has LOADS of problems and I couldn't take it anymore.

So, I finally had to break down and get one of these fuckin' iPhones. I need to know (a) if anyone here has one, and (b) if so, can anyone tell me if there's a way to download auxiliary software/games/utilities for it off the internards (or Easynews). I don't know SHIT about it, and the instruction manual looks like a Bazooka Joe comic strip--about the same fucking size and equally as informative. And, even though I don't know how to do SHIT with it yet, ...it's PRETTY FUGGIN' SCHWEET. (God knows it slays me to have to have bought a goddamn Apple ANYTHING, though!)

If ain't none a you guys has one, don't bother... I'LL put my own cricket jar in here in due time. (But, I can use all the first-hand experience/advice I can get right now.)

One of my friends got one last week and I played around on it for about 5 minutes. I dunno what the method is to enter text, but it seems like it would be better served with a stylus than fingers. I was using a Mac at my last job, but was runnin' Windows on it. Any time I had to use the Mac features, it was like an alien world to me. It just seems like it'd be a LOT tougher to get used to on a mobile platform.

Heaps, you couldn't be MORE right about the keypad. Here's the problem: When you're on the internet, you can tilt the phone horizontally and get a wider keyboard--no problems there. BUT, when using it vertically (e.g. text paging), it's a motherfucker if you don't have dainty little fag fingers. I tried using the pen from my DS and it wouldn't work AT ALL. That is, there's some fucked-up thermal-sensitive techmology that only allows a human finger to activate the keys. What the FUCK is THAT all about. If a little DS-type pen was developed, they'd sell like crazy (and I'd be the first to buy one. As it is now, I've had to switch from using my thumb to using my index finger to type messages.

However, I loaded a bunch of photos into this slut, and the Minority Report zooming and panning and flinging from pic to pic is just beyond belief. Also, fucking FLASH VIDEOS ON A CELL PHONE?!! Oh, I'm diggin' it da mos'. It's gonna take forever for me to hand-enter all my contacts, but fuck it--it'll be worth the effort. These things kick ass.

BTI, Apple has some serious tech support, so phone them ASAP while it's still under warranty. Ask them for an easier way to move your contacts from your pc or other phone. I'd be surprised if there isn't a way to export your old contacts to a comma delimited list (a text file with data and oodles of commas for some reason), and send that to the iphone and import that data there.

Once upon a time you could sync your outlook contacts with your Ipod. Perhaps you could do the same with the phone? EDIT: Bingo. (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305845) Sync your contacts with your Dash using ActiveSync, then sync them with the Iphone.

I was very close to getting the iPhone, but the lack of actual buttons to push swayed my purchase. I decided on the Blackjack II, and it hasn't disappointed at all. Excel, Word, PDFs, internet sharing with my laptop (via hack), music, YouTube; it fits all of my needs. So if you change your mind for whatever reason, I highly suggest the Coonjack II.

I'm actually happier now to add all my contacts in from scratch, because (a) if you've ever been in the IT business, Outlook is one of the most volatile/vulnerable apps made (I never used it), and (b) I never had anyone's email addresses in my old phone because I had no reason for it then. I was hoping to all hell that Verizon would've come out with a WiFi capable phone this year...if for no other reason that pure indulge-ment. I just re-upped my original Verizon contract from '02 and settled for a Samsung Gleam based on its size. I can only assume that WiFi will be the next "camera phone" craze and hopefully by the time it's time to renew again, there'll be something similar to the iPhone with it's Internet capabilities.

if anyone is interested, there was a release of iphone bluetooth yesterday.
it's an interesting project and seems to work well. i only tried it for a few minutes but was able to pair it with my mac without any problems whatsoever.

they are planning on pushing out an itunes sync over bluetooth and also gps support, but i cant imagine it would be very useful considering the speed of bt and the size of an itunes sync.

Okay, good question. I had the same concerns, and even worse.

Back in L.A., AT&T had notoriously bad coverage and horrible CS. Well, years later, AT&T made an overhaul, and it was when they bought out all of Cingular's towers that their coverage was finally that of TWO providers.

I looked at a coverage map of the US, then state-by-state, mainly in the states I find myself a lot (NY, Ohio, Cali, Michigan, etc.). So, the coverage was so fucking dense, I had to go with it. Now, when I'm in L.A., I can even pull a signal in my folks' pad, which is in the Hollywood mountains where you can't even get an infrared remote to work.

I would look at an LA County-specific coverage map -- look closely, then pull the trigger and get the goddamn gadget ... on accounna it rules ass.

I got the Kindle app for the iPhone, which is free, & downloaded a couple of free samples of books from Amazon.

I was fully expecting to find it hard work, reading a book on the iPhone, but I got through the opening chapter of Peter Hook's book about the Hacienda in double quick time, laying on the sofa nursing a Christmas hangover. So I bought the rest of the book. I finished it in a couple of days.

It's revolutionised reading for me. What with all the other gadgetry we've all got these days, reading had been relegated to when I was sitting on the lav. Now I can read whilst rollerblading, boogie boarding & ice road trucking.

Just picked up the iPhone 4. Holy mother fuck. The screen is mind-tittie-fuckingly crisp and clear. I tried iOS 4 on the 3GS, and it actually had moments of lag, but there is ZERO lag on this bad boy.

As far as the reception issue thing, none for me. No matter how I grip the thing. A friend that works at AT&T says a case fixes the issue. If you owe a $700 phone and don't have a case on it, you deserve no service, asshole.

Honestly, the screen is so crisp it may be the only advantage that's necessary to get my recommendation, but there are a few nice addons that are always overlooked.

1. A little quicker than the 3GS. The jump isn't as great as the leap the 3GS made, but it's still noticeable. For instance, the accelerometer is almost instantaneous. When I go to landscape, it hardly hesitates.

2. HD Video. This phone will put a hurting on Flip's stock. It's every bit as good as a Flip camera.

3. Better 3G speeds. I ran a test the other day on my 3GS at home and I was getting 3 Mbps down and 200 Kbps up. Big discrepancy. With the 4, my down speeds were the same but my uplink was around 700 Kbps. 3G browsing is significantly faster.

4. Build quality. It makes the 3GS look like a Fisher Price steamboat.

5. The battery life is about 20 % better.

And of course, the software update to iOS 4 is available to the 4 and the 3GS. Backgrounding, folders for apps, better Google search in safari, etc.

So far I've been very happy. I can finally watch HD porn on my iPhone. Truckstop Handjobs 6 looks stunning on it!

Apple says in a press release on its site that it was "surprised" after the launch of the phone to read reports of reception problems, especially those who reported that the signal strength dropped completely – from five "bars" (the strongest reception) to none when held in a way that covers the antenna on the bottom of the phone.

*Finally* fucking picked up an iPhone 4. Verno, goofin' you weren't. This bad whore is unbelievable, and after owning all prior versions of this thing before, I really couldn't imagine THAT much improvement. Both Mac World & Mac Life broke down the specs, and this thing is, for openers, the most lightning-fast handheld device period. Then there's the graphics. Literally 4 times the resolution of the 3g, which I couldn't believe till I sawr it for myself.

Fucker shoots HD video, and has an onboard 5 megapixel camera. BUT, though there was software to bring the 3gs camera up to 7MP, it took forever to save and process, so you'd never get your shot. This fucker lets you click away like them old Nikon commercials with Bjorn Borg in 'em. Beautiful. And it also has a built-in video chat (iPhone 4 to iPhone 4 via WiFi) as a regular function. Fuckin' incredible.

Then, watching a baseball game live in HD on this sumbitch ... that tore it. "If you can find the means, I highly recommend it ... it's so choice."

Oh, and this whole "scandal" about no reception w/out a case? Horseshit. Maybe if you live on Maker's prairie, but even then, only maybe. What a joke.

Scored my iPhone 4 on the 5th. They're worse than them Cabbage Patch dolls back in the '80's ... good luck finding 'em (I had to try three Apple stores to get mine, and even then they had like three in stock).

They don't even STOCK cases for these yet in these fuckin' stores, and ain't no 3G case workin', neither -- and I tried to make a case out of a George Foreman grill, but that didn't work out too good. You can't get to any forum or just sfj? I've had trouble getting into sfj when the forum software wanted me to change my password. Tapatalk doesn't handle that so I had to log out of sfj on my computer and log back in. Then I was prompted to change my password and could use the new password on Tapatalk.
