So I'm an IT guy which means I deal with lots of computers, which means I hate computers. I'll try 'n refrain from bitching about shit that makes no sense to anybody.

At work I run Macs and Linux, which means I don't hafta deal with Windows at all, which is (in my opinion) the best fucking IT gig on the planet.

But right now I've got this laptop I picked up from another unit on campus for free. It's older and not all that fast. I installed Windows on it because I gotta run some autocross timing software that only runs on Windows for my car racing shit.

It took an hour to install XP. Then another hour to install security updates. And now I'm almost up to 3 hours just installing fucking Service Pack 2. This is retarded.

Anyway, the main reason I'm bitching is because asshats like you won't buy Macs, so Windows lives on, deeply assfucking everyone who uses it.

Please, buy a Mac.

I couldn't do half of the audio/video stuff I do with the software included with Windows. The apps that come with the Mac are phenomenal. Having to worry a lot less about viruses and spyware is an added bonus.

Why not just use the PC-based hardware that you got already and install some unix/linux?

With the emulators, you can run almost everything you need daily anyhow. Sure you can't always get drivers to support bleeding edge hardware, but not all of us are in that situation.

I don't think there's too much that I run now that wouldn't run under an emulator, it's just the bucking up and switching part (and I'd have to switch over Email clients completely, which would be a pain) that would be a bit cringey.

Frankie, why would you cheap out on making a drive image? If your drive fails or gets corrupted, would you pay 40 - 50 bucks to get it all back? If not, then why even bother making a drive image? Even if you are just trying to upgrade your system hard drive, you should use something that has a reputation for doing it well. I don't know of any free ones that I would trust to be clean of malware, spyware etc...
