View Full Version : Cell Phone Advice

Since I know you guys are all way smarter than I am when it comes to technology I am coming to you for advice. I am planning to get a new cell phone and have narrowed my choices down to the Motorola RAZR V3 and the Samsung D807. I am wondering if anyone has and/or knows anything about either one of these phones and, if so, could you give me your thoughts on them. Or, if there is a really great phone out there that you would recommend other than these two I'm willing to take suggestions. I thank you in advance for your help! :tipofthecap:

Yes, Teo...
Do what Belasco (And Maddox) says. Get the Nokia E70. I had a co-worker who had one and it kicks ass. I still think the iphone kicks as much ass despite what Maddox said about it. Although I wouldn't pay 500 goddamn bucks for a fucking phone. Especially when the E70 can do all the same shit. The only thing the E70 can't do is show pics of the album cover for the song that you're playing on the device.... whoopidy-freaking-doo!!! That's a pointless feature anyway, IMO.
The E70 sells for anywhere from $325 to $360. That's still pricey as well, but if you want a really cool kick ass phone, then it's worth it.
I'm definitely more of a fan of Motorola products than Nokia. I loved the Nokia products of old, but everything they have put out the last 3-4 years is garbage--poorly made, terrible layouts, clumsy menus.
I want a phone that is reliable, tough and easy to use. My old V600 is the best I've ever had, but it's about time for a replacement. The wife has had a Razr for quite a while and they don't disappoint.
This is likely my next phone. A Motorola KRZR K1.
http://www.welectronics.com/gsm/Motorola/motorola_krzr_k1.jpg
I just wish the US carriers would get their collective shit together so we could have all the kickass phone the Japs and Koreans have. They've already got phones with 10 megapixel cameras built in.

Dang, the E70 is not one of the choices with our work plan. The best of the Nokia phones they have to offer is the 6126. Thanks though B!
Edit: Yeah, I was waiting for you to chime in, Boss. With our state deal it looks like the KRZR would run about $149. Both the RAZR and the D807 would be free. I'll take a closer look at it though and see how it compares. :tipofthecap:

My first cell was a Nokia. I dropped that thing off roofs, into the pool and was able to dry it out, and it had the antennae chewed off by my gf at the time's dog. Worked like a f'in champ after all that. I've wanted another one since. The only other phone I've had for a long time and abused was my Kyocera "slider." I could have played baseball with that fucker. These days, I drop a phone once and the "battery holder inner" breaks permanently. I'd love a new tough phone when my latest one shits the bed.

The Kyocera Slider was the toughest, best signal puller inner phone I've ever owned. I was so pleased with it, I went and bought another Kyocera after my Slider's screen got cracked. The new phone was the biggest piece of shit ever. And everyone I know that has a Kyocera says they blow ass. But that Slider was amazing.

Funny you should mention that. Mine got a cracked screen, but it still worked like new. I switched from Sprint to Verison and had to retire it. Still the best phone I ever owned, and fit in a pocket easily. Plus the noise it made when you opened or closed it sounded like breaking a peppermint pattie.

*All* it got was a cracked screen. I was working with my ex-at-the-time's dad and we were patching the roof of a 2 story school. I went to pull it out of my pocket and it launched out of my hand and fell 2 stories to the pavement. I thought it was finished, but picked it up and everything worked fine other than the cracked screen. Everyone said it was a girly looking phone, but there was nothing girly about it. I remember the speakerphone was so loud my neighbors commented on it.
Back on topic: Like I said Teo, I have the new Razr V3xx, and it is a significant upgrade to the classic Razr. It's 3g, and even if you don't like using the web on your phone it has other benefits, like not making a buzzing sound in your computer speakers when a call is coming through. And I got mine for free, so it's the same price (still haven't figured that one out).

We just got the LG VX8700 (and moved to Verizon) - we don't really need a keyboard type phone and we don't use it tons - but it will be nice to have something that doesn't keep taking a freeking photo when I-m carrying it in my purse/pocket like the stupid Sony Ericsson-fucker kept doing! Talk about a batterywaster!
I will never, ever buy anything with an LG logo on it. EVERY product I have ever had from them was pure crap.

^^ HA!! I was waiting for that response!!
I'm never getting anything from Audiovox again. Shit, if I make a call anymore, the battery meter runs dead on my CDM 8945 and turns off. I can turn it back on right after and have a near full meter for the rest of the day. Oh, well...it was free with my renewal, but I'm definitely upgrading next spring.

I have the Motorola Q phone through Verizon. They actually have the best service for phones in the Boise area. I was with Cingular but they had dead spots around town.
When I was with Cingular I had an HTC pocket PC phone and I loved it. It is a step down from there to the Q, but my job changed and the Q fits the job function nicely.
Yesterday I ordered a pair of Motorola S9 bluetooth stereo headphones, I tried them in the store and it was a "I've got to have these" moment.

I am getting them strictly for listening to music and watching video on my phone, I won't use them in the car or walk arround town with them. I will wear them just the same as I would any set of headphones, at my desk at work and when I go for a walk / run (mostly walk.)
I hate "bluetooth bob" that wears his little earpiece while having lunch as much as anyone. Don't you just want to walk up and rip the thing of his ear and throwit in his drink?
Well I've had the KRZR for a few days now and I'm absolutely loving it. So far it has incredible reception, sounds great on both ends and looks slick. It ships with a USB cable and 128 mb Micro SD card. I plugged it into the computer and Windows immediately recognized it. I can drag and drop music, pictures, videos, etc. to or from the phone as if it's another drive. The phone has a 2 megapixel camera that does pretty well. A built-in MP3 player that I didn't really want, but have quickly decided kicks all kinds of ass, especially how easy it is to setup and use. Unlike many other phones these days, you can make any MP3 a ring tone so you don't have to pay to download one. You can also upload anything you want for wallpaper, screensaver etc. For an extra $5 a month, I could have full web capability, but I doubt I'll add that. Unlike the iPhone, the KRZR has instant messaging. The only nit-picky con so far is the finish of the phone. It's so damn shiny because of the mirror finish, it picks up finger prints easily.
