To quote a young black gentleman sitting in front of me at a Clippers game a few years back, commenting on Michael Olowokandi: " Sheeeeyit, maaaaan...I trade that muthafucka fo' two beers and a Pinto." I only hope the Lakers get more for him than what they got for Shaq.

Source: Bryant tells Buss that he wants out
In a meeting in Spain, the Lakers star voices concerns to owner about team's direction.

They had spoken by phone two weeks ago, a few days after Bryant asked to be traded, but this was a longer, more emotional conversation.

Buss wanted to appeal to the nine-time All-Star, reminding him that trades take time to develop and that winning remains the focus of the organization, but Bryant voiced concerns about the direction of the franchise and reiterated his demand to be traded, said a source with knowledge of the situation.
"That's the message that came out of it," the source said.

Team sources vehemently insisted there were no plans to trade Bryant, and they were still hopeful that a peaceful solution could be reached. Bryant and Buss are expected to resume their dialogue in the near future.

Bryant's displeasure has grown steadily since the Lakers were eliminated by Phoenix last month in the first round of the playoffs. The Lakers are 121-125 since reaching the NBA Finals in 2004, not including their first-round exits the last two seasons.

Last month, Bryant publicly requested that Jerry West return to the team's front office — an unlikely scenario — and urged General Manager Mitch Kupchak to make trades that would steer the team in a winning direction.

"I'm still frustrated," Bryant said at the time. "I'm waiting for them to make some changes."

The Lakers have contacted numerous teams, but there have not been any blockbuster deals yet — by them or by any other team in the league.

Talks with the Indiana Pacers for six-time All-Star forward-center Jermaine O'Neal have stalled because the Lakers do not want to give up both Lamar Odom and Andrew Bynum to get O'Neal.

Trade talks around the league are expected to heat up as the June 28 draft approaches and could continue into the free-agent period that begins July 1.

Bryant was vacationing in Spain and stopped by to see a practice session of his favorite soccer team, FC Barcelona, on Thursday. Buss had been in China since leaving the U.S. more than two weeks ago. He planned to travel to London before returning to Los Angeles, although it was unclear whether he went to Spain specifically to talk to Bryant.

"What they talked about and what went on between Kobe and Dr. Buss is private and will remain between the two of them," Lakers spokesman John Black said.

Bryant's agent, Rob Pelinka, did not return calls seeking comment.

Bryant, who will be 29 in August, has four years left on his contract, but he can void it in two years.

The two-time scoring champion, widely acknowledged as the game's most dynamic player, has the NBA's top-selling jersey and is a significant draw at Staples Center. The Lakers are very cognizant of his importance in driving ticket sales, as well as his effect on corporate sponsors.

Buss, who signed off on Bryant's seven-year, $136.4-million contract in July 2004, released a statement two weeks ago in which he said, "We will continue to pursue every avenue possible to improve our team with him as the cornerstone."

Just a hunch -Kobe ain't goin' anywhere. Equal value doesn't exist, and he's prone to tantrums that get soothed over. LA just needs to get him a real running mate, and the Lakers'll be fine.

Hopefully you're right. But Jerry Buss will only take so much horseshit...me, I like Kobe a lot, but I'm a Laker fan first and foremost. Trade his ass if he's gonna be such a little biyotch.

Bullshite. Kobe is the best player in the league, and just needs some talent around him. I'm hardly even a "laker fan" anymore since the NBA has gone the route it has, but if they trade Kobe, they suck. The Lakers stole from the Bucks, the Heat ripped off the Lakers, if any team trades for Kobe, the cycle continues. No fuckin' way they can trade his ass, IMHO.

I don't think the Lakers are willing to get the caliber of player Kobe needs to get a championship. I say trade him and good riddance.

This has been swirling for years, but has heated up this season.

I agree with Russy. Bryant ain't going anywhere, UNLESS the Lakers are willing to just dump him for low-tier bench players. There were rumors a couple years ago the Clippers might be interested, but that died fast.

I think it boils down to ego's. Shaq proved by going to the Heat he's willing to bend a little, but Bryant's ego makes Shaq's look lightweight. Bryant's ego is so out of control, that he'll only take orders from the Lakers, and vice versa, the Lakers are the only team willing to put up with his cancerous attitude, and PR nightmare scenario.

They should have let Kobe go three years ago when they could have signed Steve Nash, and would have kept Shaq and Jackson and won another title or two.

Kobe Bryant To Be Traded To Lakers

Deas Sea Telegram

The latest word out of Los Angeles is that Lakers star guard Kobe Bryant will be traded to the Lakers, according to unidentified sources. The trade should finalize early this weekend according to the source, who cannot be identified because the deal is still pending.

The Lakers will trade Kobe to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Kevin Garnett, who in turn will be traded to the Atlanta Hawks for Joe Johnson and a second round pick. The Hawks will then trade Garnett to the Knicks for Patrick Ewing, Isiah Thomas, and Spike Lee. Spike Lee will then be traded by MGM Studios to Paramount for rights to the Godfather sequel, who will then trade Spike Lee to the Spike TV Network. Spike TV will sign over rights of Spike Lee to the WWE's Vince McMahon, who is allegedly dead, so that he can wrestle in the upcoming pay-per-view SummerSlam. The loser of the main event at SummerSlam will then be traded to the North Carolina Penetenary for Rae Carruth, who will then be resigned by the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers will then trade Carruth to the Charlotte Bobcats for Adam Morrison, who will then have to star in Paramount's "Boogie Nights 2: The Protege" according to the terms of the deal. The Bobcats will trade Rae Carruth to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Kobe Bryant, and part of Carruth's terms will be to assassinate Kevin McHale. Bryant will then be traded to the Los Angeles Lakers for Joe Johnson, Phil Jackson, Lamar Odom, the fat kid that looks like a young and fat Shaq, and two first round draft picks.

The deal will be the largest trade in professional sports history, and the first to branch out to other entertainment industries as well.

"Although we hated to lose Kobe, we sure are glad to have him back.", said Lakers owner and known alcoholic Jerry Buss, "We'll be on track to winning a championship for sure now!" This statement is not to be released until after the trade has finalized, but we don't think Jerry Buss will notice.

Local Clipper fan Bob Greene had this to say, "I think the Lakers are ripping themselves off. They could get much less for Kobe."
