How much do you want to spend, what size are you looking for and what type of work will it be used for?

I want maybe a 19" or 20". Fast enough for games. Cost? well, I'll see where I am with what I want first. Ya know?

I am a big fan of Samsung monitors. I do color critical work all day long and they are superior, without the outrageous expense of some of the ultra high-end LCD's, such as Lacies. I also use them at home to work and game on.

I have several of the 204T models, but unfortunately they don't sell them anymore, which is a shame because it is the best I have ever used.

This one is close though

If you prefer a widescreen, this one would be my choice

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001096

If you want something on the cheap, I have purchased a few of these Hans-G monitors for family members and for the price, they are exceptional. 2 ms response time with both RBG and DVI connections.

Those are great displays DJB. It's basically the exact same monitor as the Apple Cinema 24" but a helluva lot cheaper. I've almost bought that exact one a few times.

So a 2ms response time is fast? Fast enough for those high graphic games like Doom 3 and Quake 4?

Like KFJ said, that's about as fast as it gets. Even with a monitor that has a slower response time of say 12 ms, you would still never see it, and if you did it would be in the form of very nominal ghosting while playing games with very dark backgrounds. I played all those high end games on one and never had any issues. Native resolution is probably more of a concern than response time, because some of the monitors do not scale down well. If you are playing most games at say 1280x1024, then go with a 19" monitor with that native resolution. If you have a graphics card and other hardware that can handle 1600x1200, then go with a 20" LCD, but playing at that resolution takes some serious horsepower.

'Scuse me for a sec, Beans. Sounds like you've got your shit handled here w/suggestions. I didn't wanna bust a new thread for this, so I'm gonna quickly pile-drive my question here, if it's all the same...

Hey, anyone have a good recommendation for a low-cost way to get outdoor projection workin' during summer nights? I'm a huge fan of outdoor flicks (old drive-in days never left me), and in a small town near the Duck border, they have summer night flicks projected onto a wall by Bellingham Bay and everyone chills on a grass field and watches cheesy flicks.

I'm tryin' to get a rig workin' for this summer, and I don't have the first fuckin' clue about low-rent projection (where you can just put a sheet or screen on a wall in the backyard and feed a DVD through a projector). I'm definitely talkin' almost Fisher Price caliber... "You know... fer kids!"

Lots of info here (http://backyardtheater.com/forums/).

Also I think the HTguys (http://www.htguys.com/index.html) documented making a budget outdoor setup.

You don't need to use three thousand dollar projector and in fact using a dirt cheap one will make it more like some of the bad drive-in experiences from the 1970's when drive-in owners used old projectors and didn't maintain them. You could also run the audio through a distortion box to make the audio sound like those crappy blown out speakers... talk about nostalgia.

Jesus Ross! I'd LOVE to have a collection of those bad boys. I remember the transition from them to the aerial antenna clips, but I thought there was somthin' in between.

Funny you bring up the low-grade video quality; I'd said that exact same thing to TC in a PM. I actually WANT it to be as old-school and shitty-ass as possible. I'll be sure to only watch schweet classics from the '70s on it, though.

Yeah I really loved the "drive-in experience". In 1979, while watching a horrible print of Phantasm, I received the most tremendous blow-job from a girl whose father helped design Sky-Lab.

My newest computer is hooked up to a 42" LCD. At this size I get some slight pixelation unless I'm running 1080 res and then it is beautiful, my blacks don't get as dark as I'd like em, but on a lot of newer models that problem has supposedly been fixed.

What I want to get is a 72" DLP for movies an such, I just don't have the cash.

Actually, Belasco, Idaho was still part of the Washington Territory during the Emancipation Proclamation and since it was not a "state in rebellion" it was exempt from the executive order.
