Eh? General Super Bowl Discussion. Carry on wayward son.

I think for the first time in a very long time I truly don't care. I'm still going to watch, but I really don't give a crap aboot these two teams. Who do I think is going to win, though? I would put money on the bears, for sure.

BTW - Did you know that both of the coaches are black?

Manning is a post-season choke artist (and I hate him like I hated Hostettler). He's saving his big choke for the Bowl, and that Chicago D is gonna be playing 3-card-monty with him all day long. Lovie knows how to scare him with fake blitz packages and rotate into coverage, sending covergage guys into blitz... and it goes on from there. Manning (aka Yertle the Turtle) is gonna throw two picks, and Chicago's forcing two to three turnovers. I'll take the UNDERS for sure, but it's gonna be great.

I'm no Chi-town fan, but my whole family's from there and I loathe the Indianapolis bandwagon. I'm an AFC man, born & raised, but not when it comes to Pitt, Raiders, NE, or Indy. Gonna be a good uhn!

We've got some homemead sauasage-vendor snausages & brats, wings, two lobster tails for the grill, and a 5-lb. prime rib, ready for the spit. You NEVER eat after high noon on the Saturday before a Super Bowl. Wake up fuckin' STARVIN'.

I voted for Indy, but am rooting for the Bears. The Bears have been my second favorite team (though far behind the Steelers) since I was a kid. This will be the first two years in a row where both games will hold my interest for the whole game.

I hope the Purple one breaks out his ax for the halftime show and doesn't do a crappy medley of his hits.

Man, I'm so lopsided on this one. One minute I think the Colts'll win it, then I'm thinking the Bears. But IMO, it will (unfortunately) be determined by if Manning plays like he does in the regular season (MVP-like), or if he chokes (more likely). Manning usually rips apart basic Cover 2 schemes, but not ones like Lovie has. I like the way the Bears play it: turnovers, field position, and playing your strengths. One thing I will be sick of by the end of next week: the story, no matter the outcome, will be Manning, Manning, Manning. I almost hope they win so I won't hear all the Manning and Marino comparisons.

Question: does anyone know if Tommie Harris is going to play? I think he's on the IR, but I can't find anywhere that confirms or denies if he's playing. That's a big loss for the Bears if he doesn't.

Boyd

I don't get the hype aboot the Bears defense. Here's the scores of their last 6 games:

at St. Louis W 42-27
Tampa Bay W (OT) 34-31
at Detroit W 26-21
Green Bay L 7-26
Playoffs
Seattle W (OT) 27-24
New Orleans W 39-14

That's giving up an average of 24 points a game against not exactly a stellar lineup of weakass NFC opponents. And all of the regular season games meant something in terms of playoff seeding, so there were no throw away games in there.

My prediction is that the Bears will get worked by the Colts.

the story, no matter the outcome, will be Manning, Manning, Manning. I almost hope they win so I won't hear all the Manning and Marino comparisons.

Same phfuckin' feelings here, but about BOTH of them are in regards to Elway's legend/legacy. But I added Tom Brady to that list. I'm an avid NFL fan since I can remember, but as I've always said: stats or for those who didn't watch the game(s) (as in, watching a QB's whole career), which is I why I bought a 10' satellite dish back in the early '90's so I could catch every Denver game on good ol' K2. Tom Brady IS NO ELWAY, nor is Manning. I don't think they "suck," but they can't approach the toughness, mental acuity under pressure consistently, evading sacks and throwing across their bodies 70 yards on a busted play for TD's, and countless intangibles.

For Dozier it's Marino; for me, it's Elway. Dan Fouts was the only other "losing" QB I put in that pantheon, because I WATCHED HIM PLAY! Most assholes just read the stats and never watch games, and make all these gay procolamations... I know there are a FEW here who don't do that. Whew! Fuck Manning - he's good, but he's not my kind of QB under pressure when it counts - and THEY were choking when they had Edge all those seasons. Denver would go to Bowls with fucking Sammy Winder and other mediocre backs (until, of course, TD came in - and then they go back-to-back).

Has anyone 'sides me been Tivo'ing the NFL networks's replays of the last two decades of Super Bowls? I saved of course XXXIII and then rewatched the Skins/Broncos Bowl. Just watching that first play of the game, Elway on a frozen 60-yard rope to Ricky Nattiel... for an instant 6... <sighs> Just beautiful (despite what ensued).

Tommie Harris will not play. IR extends through the playoffs (once you are put on IR, you're done for the whole season, playoffs included).

I also have always viewed Peyton as a choke-artist in the big games, but I think he's got one thing going for him in this game: the most overrated defense in the history of pro football. The fact that these asshats are even mentioned in the same breath as the 85 Bears, 00 Ravens, late 90's early 00's Bucs or the 70's Steel Curtain Steelers defenses is a joke. Just look at what the Cardinals (nice job of pissing that one away), Packers, Bucs, Vikings and Lions were able to do to these guys at different points in the year. And it ain't exactly like those teams were lighting it up offensively. (Edit: Boyd has pointed this out brilliantly above)

Here's where the Bears are in trouble: The way you beat Manning is by pressuring him in the pocket; make him uncomfortable. How? Bring the house. Blitzes, stunts, and zone blitzes. To do that, you have to either play man coverage (which the Colts just absolutly attack and thrive off of) OR change up you coverages into Zone Dog or 3 and 4 deep. The Bears don't have the safety depth to do that. Maybe with Mike Brown still in there, they might have a shot, but I think Peyton will expose the DBs for what they are -- average cover guys.

I see it as another "Steve Young 6 TDs against the Chargers" kind of game. The NFC has been FAR FAR inferior to the AFC all year, and I think this game will highlight that. Despite Manning's past "big game" failures, I just think this one is gift-wrapped, and the Colts blow them out on pure passing game alone.

Colts 37
Bears 13

First and foremost... Boyds Avatar is slaying me. Combover is such a dutch. I just laughed out loud at the office.

Secondly, what the fuck is the deal with Tank whats-his-negro-face getting a special release from his probation to travel with the team. ESPN plays this up like I am supposed to feel good about our legal system having a hard on for celebrities. This dude broke the law, period. He is on probation, and nobody else would be allowed to leave the city. But lets all get down and suck his snake, because he plays for the Bears. Fags. That alone is the reason I am pulling for the...

Colts, bitch. Hands down. Get out the anal lube Bears fans. This ain't 85, and Grossman ain't even an ncaa starter. Manning finally performs, and yes, we all have to listen to the comparisons to Marino for the next week or two. Big deal. I don't watch ESPN unless it's Baseball or Football season anyway, and I get my news from SFJ.

I'll be at work and I don't care. The Super Bowl is almost always a big letdown. We had our legendary game - the AFC title game. I don't expect much.

My prediction: Manning plays like a turd, gets sacked multiple times, yet Indy wins, continuing the neverending and oh-so-boring debate over whether Mama's-Boy Manning is truly one of the greats. Oh, joy.

Well, it sucks making the popular pick, but i think the Colts are going to roll. By the 3rd quarter, the Bears will just put their little asses in the air to get fucked instead of resisting. And we'll hear about Peyton Manning like he's the 2nd coming of Cruise, and he'll spend more time shooting commercials than practicing or film study for the next year.
Fine. He's good. Yes, he's that good. He's the best to play the position since Elway, and it pains me to say that. He's a Hall of Famer either way, and I should try to appreciate what he brings to our sport instead of screaming to pass rushers, "SPLATTER him!!!"
For the last six games, Indi is the tenth ranked defense, the bears are #29. If they play like they did early to mid-season, it's gonna be a great game. I'm not banking on it. My money is on the Colts and I'm selling points to make the spread 15.

I hate Manning because he is a bitch ass whiner who has historically choked when it has counted. On the other hand I hated Grossman because he suckled on the teet of Steve Spurrier.

But I guess I'll pull for the Bears because I'm impressed that their coach is called "Lovie" and hasn't yet been ass raped by any sexually confused NFL kickers. That dude must be TOUGH.

I said something similar watching that game. On the Stern show, they mentioned that certain Miami hotels weren't allowing rooms to be rented for less than seven days! Everyone who laid out thousands to sit in that torrential rain (as Floridians here can attest, there ain't no rain as fat and wet and heinous as that Southern tropical rain), covered in plastic sheets, thinking they were gonna have this rip-roarin' vacation and game in the Sunshine State. Nightmare. Poor bastards.

Dr. P

Tickets started at $1,400. Over 75% of sales this season were corporate. There were some pretty big chunks of empty seats in the 4th quarter. Can you imagine having no dog in that fight, a sloppy game, pouring rain, and your boss who paid for your trip is in the row in front of you staying for the whole goddamned thing and all you've wanted to do since the second quarter is catch a cab, go back to your hotel room, take a shower, mix a drink and watch the 2nd half on your hotel room television?
Most of those folks aren't even football fans. And it'd be even worse being a Bears fan and watching drives of 7, 9, 1, 59, 0 and minus 1 yards while some drunk Tennessee whore screams "Go Peyton" even when the Colts are on defense. Could have been worse though. At least it wasn't in Detroit.

Russell, I'm glad to see someone else shares in my venomous hatred towards drunk, dumb whores who pretend to be football fans. (Which reminds me of a great Hendrie rant where he went off on these types for about 10 minutes straight.) Most of the little shits just want to run around and spend thousands on ice cream and nachos, not paying one iota of attention to the game. Meanwhile, the only chance I have of finding a seat at the stadium is in the "Family Zone", where there's no beers allowed, no cursing, and for Cruise's sake (I'm not making this up) -- no yelling. You know, I have to give it to Tony Dungy. He's really played the whole black issue down very well. Lord knows lots of other coaches would have made a huge deal out of it. While I still hate the Colts, this whole championship ordeal has given me a newfound respect for Coach Dungy. What a class act, expecially in contrast to social asshairs and big heads like Belichick, Parcells, Saban, Carroll, etc.

Mr. Irrelevant
02-07-2007, 01:24 PM
I agree Coach. He's a huge reason why I'm somewhat of a Colts fan.

During the game one of the booth commentators said that he NEVER swears. Then one time he told some of his media people that he'd go onto "The Best Damn Sports show, period" program. And one of his guys asked him if he realized what he just said. He said what, and the guy said "Tony, you actually swore." And with a straight face Tony replied "I'll never say it again."

On the surface, it's little things like that, that seem a bit dorky and pointless. But in all honesty, it just shows how good of a heart the man has. And it says to me that he wants to be a positive and uplifting person to everyone he comes across, regardless of the situation.
