Another amazing comedian now officially lost to the classic speedball heroin/coke mixture. What a goddamn drag. Anyone ever dig on his comedy? One of the few stand up comedians I never wanted to punch out or throw a drink at.

He's my all time favorite. I never did hear the official reason he died. Was it really a speedball? I'm gonna have to look this up now.

All I can find is "congenital heart defect" possibly linked/rumored back to drugs. In any case, it sucked. I was so bummed.

Yeah, it just came out on the wire tonight. It's official, he Belushi'd. Mitch is just one of those rare, once in a lifetime comedians. The absolute anti-comic. He wasn't the "angry comedian" but he wasn't cheesy either. He was just Mitch and unfortunately if anyone ever adopted his style, they would be considered copycats and rightfully so. He was a goddamn unique comedian and it sucks he's dead while Larry the Cable Guy still roams the Earth.

Fuck, that sucks. Larry the cable guy indeed. It ain't right.

I read that earlier tonight too. They had been saying it was due to his heart ailment,,,,,,,but they are now saying it ws drug overdose. damn shame indeed.

Reminds me oif Bill Hicks....another under rated comic that went WAY before his time

You mention Larry The Cable Guy...........I read last week that those 4 turds are going to tour as the "Blue Collar Comedy" group AGAIN., Talk about beating a dead horse !!!!!
Nothing like hearing the same crappy "You might be a redneck" jokes again !!

GIT R DONE !!!!

Mitch kicked ass. He is missed.

It figures that a Phil Hendrie forum knows good comedy. Bill Hicks is my all-time favorite.

shocking!!

but srsly, :(

as for Hicks, the videos of him totally flipping out at his shows and attacking the audience is some of the best shit Ive ever seen.
TOOL's sampling of his work is brilliant also...

Tool released 2 dvd singles for the songs Parabola and Schism....they are in some very nice packaging and have a video, commentary and a remix of each song on them...not to hard to find..not sure if they are a limited release but knowing Tool they most likely are...plus there is a sticker on the cover saying "look for new Tool album spring 2006"....holy God

they're actually pretty barebones, I was a little dissapointed, but for $10 I dunno what I was expecting really.... ;)

the 2 DVDs are for Schism and Parabola :

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000C3L2S4/qid=1135880317/sr=8-2/ref=pd_bbs_2/103-8267058-4930250?n=507846&s=dvd&v=glance

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000C6NPJU/qid=1135880471/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/103-8267058-4930250?n=507846&s=dvd&v=glance

the packaging and booklet artwork is of the quality you'd expect from TOOL and the menu systems are quite impressive on both discs, so production value isnt a problem...

the fact that they weren't willing to do the commentary themselves was sad to see, though Jello is amusing as usual...

and it IS something new(sorta) from the guys in ~5 yrs, so THAT's something to be a little excited about, but again, it just wasnt quite enough for me

the best bit about these releases was the sticker on the shrinkwrap declaring "New TOOL record coming SPRING 2006" :) :D

and then theres that rumored Live DVD too...

I am indeed a huge tool... fan. I have seen them twice and have buttloads of bootlegs and live video footage. I have not seen nor heard much about the two new DVDs. I've only heard mixed reviews. So I dunno.

I didn't intend to make a problem. It was an innocent comment, like most of my comments on this site. Just sharing my POV. :phfreak:

What do you mean "Who cares?" We know he's dead. The only thing that sucks about Mitch Hedberg is that he's dead.

I like potatos.

As I think Phil and others have stated - you have to view Lenny in and among the atmosphere of the time to understand why what he did was interesting or groundbreaking.

Here's one of my favorite Mitch Hedberg jokes: "I was gonna stay over at my friend's house. She says "You're gonna have to sleep on the floor." Damn gravity! Got me again. You don't know how bad I wanna sleep on the wall!"

Part of what made him funny to most folks is the fact that he had a lot of charisma and good delivery.

It kind of, er, thuds on the floor writhing and dying slowly in a pool of blood when you just read it. No offense ph.

Are... are you saying that comedy requires not just a good joke, but timing and delivery too??!? Well then, Larry's fucked.

Yeh, but if you know Hedberg, then you imagine him saying it & it's funny.

Some of Mitch's stuff used to just thud to the floor anyway. But he'd put it out of it's misery in a way that made you laugh & made you like him.

Alright!
