A Kinky Friedman interview is causing some controversy. He said sex offenders should be thrown in prison where they can
"listen to a negro talking to himself." (http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/09/20/D8K8NAD00.html)
Very Hendrie-esque remark, don't you think?
Maybe Vernon Dozier would've said the same thing.lmao
He's got my vote, if I lived in TX anyway.

"Friedman told the Star-Telegram on Tuesday that anyone who is offended by his comment should vote for one of the other candidates.
"If I've got to lie to people, sweep the truth under the rug and worry about offending people, I'm not going to be very effective," Friedman said.
"I don't eat tamales in the barrio, I don't eat fried chicken in the ghetto, I don't eat bagels with the Jews for breakfast," said Friedman, who is Jewish. "That to me is true racism."
He ain't gonna get very far in politics.
I'm still voting for him. Not only is he the smartest man in the race, he's the only one with a sense of humor and good judgement. I just got my box of Kinky goodies yesterday. One of the bumper stickers is classic. "My Governor is a Jewish Cowboy". I just hope he wins so he can put all the career politicians on their ass. They are out there pandering for votes, like our current mouthpiece, after 4 years on the job he's finally talking about that sieve they call our border, but of course it's only a commercial, not like he's actually going to do anything about it.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I think he's pretty cool. I just don't have faith that enough people will buck the two party system much less vote for a dude who speaks his mind and has a sense of humor.

Boss - I'm sure you know this already, but in case you didn't, Kinky is going to be speaking at UTH (in the Houston Room) on the 27th at 1:00. I think I'm going to go see him when he is at UTA on the 30th.

Straight up, TCC, no joke:
Why don't you develop your own, personal identity and sense of worth? Then you won't have to attach yourself to Friedman, the Jewish cowboy. Is TCC a relevant guy, or does he need to attach himself to a freak like Friedman to feel good about himself?

Is that supposed to be a serious question? I certainly do not consider Kinky to be a freak by any stretch of the imagination. I'm very serious about supporting him. Is he a mainstream, cloned politician? Hell no, which is why I support him and those like him to attempt to break the mold and shake up the political stranglehold our current two-party system has on this country. No more supporting candidates and their platforms simply based on party affiliation. Don't even attempt to analyze me. Trying to use that much brain power would only cause personal harm.

I wish we could somehow vote to remove party affiliation from press coverage of politicians. I cant stand when they put some guy i dont know on TV and through an (R) or a (D) after their name. How many people just see the letter and automatically form their opinion of that person. Good or Bad, either way it has reduced something as important as the people knowing what their represenatives beleive in to a letter.
Im not very smart when it comes to history or political science, so i dont know why parties are so important in the first place. I think the parties lead to more lazy politicians and dumber constituants. Think about how much harder a politician would have to campaign to get his points across if you didnt know he was a (D) or an (R). The politician would actually have to spend time telling the people what his plans, what his platform, and what his beliefs were. While he is busy telling the people why he is the man for the job, MAYBE he wont spend as much time attacking opponents who have a different letter (R) or (D) after their name.
The voters would also benefit in this situation because no longer would could they have their minds made up just by looking at the ballot for the (R) or (D). They would have to listen to positions these politicans take. They would have to look at their history as people and the things they have done. They would have to LEARN more about the leaders of the country, than just weather or not they were a (D) or and (R).
I hate the two party system with a passion. And like i menchned earlier... im far from schooled on issues like this, but to me the (R)'s and the (D)'s are in the superbowl everyyear. No playoffs, no regular season. Both know they are going to be in the big game. ANd while they fight and hate each other on the floor of congress every day, while men and women put their lives on the line (for AMERICA not (D)'s and (R)'s mind you) I have a feeling these two parties love the other because they know "at least its just us, and hell, thats a 50 - 50 chance". You see how the the (D)'s reacted when Nader wanted on the ballet. And im sure the (R)'s have done the same in the past at some point, and if they havent, i bet they do in the future.
btw..... etathed turns 35 in 2014........... see you bitches in 2016.

Thanks for the heads-up Taco. I'm going to try and go.
And Dude, the one component you may be unaware of is that the people of Texas are absolutely pissed at the state politicians right now. While this kind of comment might normally hurt a politician, the fact that he's not backing down and going PC is actually creating a more positive response.
BTW, Chris Bell's response was pathetic - "I'm deeply, personally offended." Hmm, last time I looked Bell might have been talking to himself, but he sure wasn't a Negro. Boss, did I miss some kind of reverse Michael Jackson transformation by Bell?

Friedman appears to be all image to me. The very use of the word "cowboy" proves this. If anything he is more fake than the other candidates. I see no great ideas on his website, just the same ol' vague crap all candidates spew. Maybe someone can convince me why I should vote for him (please do so without mentioning the 2 party system, and how it's corrupt and how that automatically makes Friedman the better candidate because he's neither an R or a D.) if not i'll be tending to my morning wood Nov. 2.

I think you have it all wrong. This is not some schtick that Kinky decided to adopt in order to get attention, quite the opposite, this is who he is and he is not willing to pretend to be anything other than himself. People less familiar with him might think it's an act, but a cowboy is who he is and frankly I find it refreshing to hear someone speak from the heart.
As far as his platform and ideas are concerned I don't think they could be more obvious. His entire campaign is built around solutions to problems that the two-party system has created. Number one in my book is education. He wants to not only put more money in the pockets of teachers, but get rid of incompetent teachers who only want to show up for a paycheck.
I don't believe that he would cater to special interest groups and professional lobbyists which is probably the single greatest threat to our current political system. Perhaps the name Jack Abramoff (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Abramoff) rings a bell.
I might not agree with everything the man says or does, but I certainly think he's more honest than the rest of the candidates combined. We simply cannot trust elected officials anymore in this country--what a sad commentary. Whose interest are they most concerned with? How is it possible that Senators like Ted Kennedy and Robert Byrd are able to hold their offices for well over 40 years. Especially Kennedy who basically is responsible for negligently killing someone while in office and only received a two year suspended sentence.
Additionally, Kinky supports alternative energy and it's not all gum flapping like the other candidates. He's been pushing bio-diesel and other energy alternatives for several years.
Lastly, he founded and funds the Utopia Rescue Ranch for homeless animals. No animal in need has ever been turned away. They provide food, care and homes for strays and animals nobody else wants. Not only does that cause have a special place in my heart, but I think it's speaks loudly of his heart and his character. I trust a man who puts the care of God's innocent creatures high on his priority list.
Choosing not to vote is just plain lazy. I'm sure there are plenty of illegal aliens who would love to have your right to vote and probably many who will find a way to vote illegally. I don't care who you vote for, but don't sit on the sidelines. If you don't vote, you lose the right to bitch in my book.

All I got out of that was, firing crappy teachers and alternative energy solutions. WOW, i've never heard any candidate anywhere promise these things. :poke:
Oh, i'm just having a little fun.
If he can pull this off (being an (I) mind you) that would be great. Good luck with the Teachers Union, and energy co's, they have been proven to be doormats, they never get their way and will crumble faster than the Texans O-Line.
But, my main problem is with the AUTOMATIC assumption that an alternative candidate will be better than a R or D. Most third party candidates use this idea and try to bank on it a little too much. That goes for all of them not just Friedman.

Here's a letter I just received from his campaign. Very interesting. I've always compared Kinky to Phil, mainly because they are both satirists. i could see this same thing happening to Phil if he ever ran for public office.
Friends and neighbors,
While Rick Perry was cheerleading in college and Chris Bell was being potty trained, Kinky Friedman was picketing segregated restaurants in Austin to integrate them. Now that Kinky’s in second place and a serious threat to the two-party system, Perry and Bell have paid political assassins to dig back as far as 30 years through fictional books, comedy shows and song lyrics, desperately seeking to paint Kinky as a racist.
Republicans and Democrats have created an entire industry -- called Opposition Research -- whose sole purpose is to tarnish and destroy people’s reputations. This is why regular citizens don't run for office. If you do, and you start to threaten the system as Kinky has, you’re going to be attacked.
Kinky has overcome all of the obstacles placed before him -- getting on the ballot, raising millions of dollars, building the largest grassroots network Texas has ever seen, and breaking 20% in the polls months ago. He's a serious threat to the establishment, and when you threaten the political establishment, they use the money generated from their formidable fundraising machines to pay for "dirty tricks" tactics to manipulate the press.
It's a slimy industry that exists for the sole purpose of destroying people and -- like cockroaches -- scurries for the shadows whenever a light is shined on it.
The latest political assassination attempt takes completely out of context a controversial word that Kinky was using in a 1980 stand-up performance to lampoon racists. Playing a character on stage, Kinky was exposing bigotry through comedy and satire.
It’s pathetic that the major-party candidates have sunk to this -- trying to paint Kinky as a racist when, in fact, he was poking fun at racists. Shame on the press for being complicit. Rather than confront our opponents on their tactics and get the full story, they are allowing industries like opposition research to exist and operate outside the understanding of most voters.

I'm telling ya' Boss, the more they pull this crap the more they're pushing him up in the polls. Watermelon, you can describe it anyway you want. But, when Texans get pissed, they get even.
Think of it akin to stepping on a fire ant bed. You've got two choices: you can step back and away, or you can start digging your foot deeper into the bed. One of them is gonna end up hurting like hell.
