No, it has that close-range wi-fi only. Was at a steak joint with my buddy and his kid, they both had old-school DS units. We sat in the lobby like three jerkoffs playin' Kart while we're waitin' for a booth.
I think it goes (for LONG-range wi-fi matches): Old-school DS = 'Tendo wi-fi adapter ($40) & wireless router at home. DS-Lite = no adapter necessary, just home wireless router.

In selected titles (Including but not limited to Mario Kart DS, New Super Mario Bros. and Meteos), it is possible to play multiplayer games with other Nintendo DS users using only one game card. The maximum distance for this to be effective is about 60 feet. The Nintendo DS unit downloads the necessary data from another unit running the game. There is also a multiplayer Wi-Fi feature. At certain hotspots, or Wi-Fi enabled areas, you can hook up and play with DS owners around the world.

Okay, there seems to be some confusion on the purpose of the Nintendo WiFi adapter.
This device:
http://www.mediasky.ch/shop/bilder/_1edc3b3cc8c8639.jpg
plugs into your USB port, sending out a wireless signal and acting as a router. This eliminates the need for a fullblown 5-port router with all the fixins'. Both the old school DS and the Lite have WiFi connectivity. Bowl (who had the old DS) used to play me online in Tetris, so yes it also has WiFi.
I should be seeing a slight tax return and may check out EB games for a refurb DS. I'm a Tetris master and would love to destroy you gloids like the little bitches yous ares!!!!!!

Is this Guitar Hero thing accurate with its timing? I'd never play it (unless they had a tubs version), but the reason I ask is because when that DK Bongo thing came out for the Cube, my friend's kid had it, and it didn't take but a few seconds to realize that the beats on the screen were NOT accurately synched with the music. That is, to get a perfect score on each "hit," you'd have to turn off the sound and just go visually - I could slap that goddamn bongo on the precise NANOsecond of the downbeat, and it would be off by an appreciable amount of time, rendering that whole game a pile of shit.
So, that's why I'm asking... is the audio synchronized perfectly with the video (and controller response)?

Instead I ended up getting a PSP, and I must say I think I'm in love. I loaded some Hendrie MP3's, bought Tiger Woods 07, and it came with a 1GB memory stick, an ATV game and a movie.

its the best ive seen in any musical/dance/instrument game. the sweetest thing about it is that the note wont play the exact same time every time... meaning even though the note is set on a certain bar you wont hear the note until the exact time you strum the strum bar.
add in one of the coolest features ever : the whammy bar, which allows you to tweak the sound of any held note to your liking, and youve got one hell of a controller.

I hope that spring is still a while off, or my yard is going to take a beating this year, 'Cuz I'll be trying to gold star it on every frigging song on that bitch.

(The best thing is that all these games have way high trade-back value, so after I'm done with 'em, it shouldn't be too hard to go trade in on some new shit.)

anywho... throughout the ship you come across things from earth that have been abducted (school buses, household items, street signs, and the like) and will be able to catch some of the radio. you hear a talk radio station with people calling in about the abductions and Art Bell is on the other end hardley believing them and making snotty little remarks. nice little touch, just thought id share.

I played Zelda all night, I'm now getting ready to head into the "water temple." I'm still not sold on this game, and don't really expect to be. It's definitely not living up to the hype. The real problem I'll admit, is it's not my kind of game. I'm playing it because it's Zelda, and the last Zelda I played was A Link To The Past on NES. The franchise doesn't seem to have evolved enough since then.
So far I haven't made one choice. I'm rolling along a predetermined path, hoping to enjoy the scenery. The story is gay, the art is commercial, but good, and the bosses are easy. The bottom line is, if I get stuck anywhere for more than five minutes, I'm going to the walkthrough.
Dr. P
03-04-2007, 10:56 AM
IT, the walkthrough is mandatory. You can't find all the cool shit and hidden stuff without it. And don't worry, the levels (nor the bosses) stay so easy.
The only thing I don't like about the game is the anime feel, gay little sounds when you roll or dash, the friendly monkies and stuff, the "fantasy" genre. I'd rather deal with drug lords and cops. But the game goes on for freakin' ever. I'm on haitus until I get a new sensor bar, but I was at Mt. Snowpeak.

When I first started getting into programming, I thought I'd want to go into the video gaming industry. No more. Not as a coder, anyway. My bookshelf has a couple dozen pounds worth game programming books and info about the industry, all for nothing. Burnout in that field hits at about age 30 - it's rare to find someone coding video games for 10+ years. Video game budgets rival that of major Hollywood films. As a result the workers are pushed as hard as possible to crank out a title that will sell. It's too expensive to gamble on an unproven concept. 20+ hour days for several weeks straight is not uncommon. Deadlines have to be met or the entire company can go under. It's not an environment that's conducive to imaginative creativity and the people that are imagining some great stuff get ignored because of the risk.
Japan, thankfully, is not as gunshy.

Well, when something works in the gaming industry, they tend to glom on to us for dear life. Especially for a console. You see slightly more innovation (except for Japanese games like Rule of Rose) on computer games. They don't have to deal with getting the console licensing and getting all weird as a result.
Spooner
03-17-2007, 02:44 PM
Weird would be a nice change, actually. Games like Seaman for the Dreamcast, or Fur Fighters... those at least had a little innovation. There are boundless environs they can throw at us, yet all we keep getting is post-apocalyptic ruins - game after game after... Just, show me a Dutch Amish town in Pennsylvania, and put a flag on either end of the village. Ride horses and shoot muskets for all I care. Just gimme something NEW.
Someone had FINALLY made a Western-themed game, but the mechanics/physics were so egregious, I had to throw it in the trash after 20 minutes (and worse, it was a 3rd-person game). Someone needs to tap into the Western with the same engine they're using for Halo and/or Gears.

There was some supernatural Western for the PS2 - the mechanics were so clunky I think we gave up on it here. =( Cool premise, bad mechanics.

Gears is 3rd person when you are running around, the nice thing is the character models are FANTASTIC and the physics are very realistic. you can take cover behind almost anything on the map, when you do you are able to peak up/over the cover object and your crosshairs appear in 1st person. the transitions are very well done and everything flows great between actions.
i agree, we've hand enough of this genre but the gameplay and enviornment is what really make Gears a winner. check out rainbow six Vegas though for sure, the multiplayer is a whole lotta fun. tagging choads between slot machines and rolling over craps tables for cover. helluva place for some nice granade action.

There are few cool western games, Russy.
Gun - It's for the GC, XBox and PS2
http://cube.ign.com/articles/665/665546p1.html
Red Dead Revolver - Just for the PS2 and it's made by Rockstar Game (The people who made the Grand Theft Auto games, if you didn't know)

I played Gun, but not RDR.... Gun was a great game and I would play it again. Personally I think it's one of the best western theme games since Sunset Riders.

Billy's right. Red Dead Revolver has similar gameplay to GTA but the bummer is there's no free-roaming type play. The gun duels are interesting. I'd say it's average.
I don't know how Rock Star can make games as great as the GTA series and then put out such turds. Remember that game State of Emergency? I read about it somewhere and thought, "Holy crap, a game where you're a rioter destroying the local mall! How cool is that?"
The game was a TURD.
That's why I'm reluctant to check out that game Bully. Interesting premise and still shots of the graphics. But I'm through being disappointed by Rock Star games. Has anyone played that one?

Yeah, we played it all the way through.
It's, well, I don't know how to describe it in terms of other Rock Star games. You can do that same sandbox kind of play if you want, but if you're not in classes and get nabbed, yer still truant, you know?
And, some areas are closed off until you do certain things - I don't remember that from stuff like Saint's Row or GTA:whatever but that seemed a bit different.
If you like just nonstop violent guns, ammo, etc you're not gonna like Bully. Is it fun? Yeah - but at some points the way that running is enabled even my husband's hands were hurtin' after running/biking a lot in the game (and his hands and fingers are strong and usually never ever hurt).
I dunno what else to say about it, I though it was interesting enough to watch all the way through. Some hand-eye coordination is needed but the gameplay isn't what I'd consider mega-violent.

Heiser, I just checked out the Gears of War video review at IGN. Holy shit, man. However, it looks like a 3rd-person shooter, not a 1st. Does it give you that option in/during the game? Or, is just a flat-out 3rd-person?
It looks goddamn good enough to warrant the purchase of the 360. The only complaint I have is, WHY THE FUCK DO WE NEED *ANOTHER* POST-APOCALYPTIC/SPACE PLANET BOMBED-OUT RUINS ENVIRONMENT?!!!
It was just officially announced last week that Gears of War will be released for the PC. The gamers I know who have been playing it on the 360 swear it is among the best console game they've ever played.

Theyre pretty harsh if you wanna play the game on High settings.
Min requirements are:
Operating System: Microsoft® Windows® XP (Service Pack 2)
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 2 Ghz/AMD XP 2200+
Video Card: 128 MB DirectX® 9c compatible card/ nVIDIA® GeForce™ 5700/ATI Radeon® 9600
Disk Space: 10 GB available hard drive space
Sound Card: DirectX® 9 compatible sound card
RAM: 512 MB RAM
DirectX: DirectX 9.0
You'd be playing on extra low settings if you had that rig tho.
But yeah, Stalker is amazing. Mainly the AI is some of the smartest ive ever seen in a game. For example: There were two mutant dogs running at me, so i shoot one of um, and then the other gets scared and runs away. I thought he just ran off and thatd be the end of it, but noooo. the fucking scared dog came back with like a whole pack of dogs and a huge mama dog to kick my ass.
I died, but i thought it was pretty awesome. haha.

I've tried to play that ONE time, and lemme tell ya, I almost had a seizure AND a stroke. There was just way too much chaos; shit flyin' off the screen and then back, really hard to keep track of movement and your guy (and the opponent). Thennn you may not enjoy horror games as a genre, then, since most of them tend to be a bit dim on the screen. If you make sure the room is dark, the screen will look brighter as a whole, of course =)

Are the Sanitarium games on GameCube (or something I can play on my Wii)?
It was a PC game released in 1998 - it wasn't a shooter, but it was creepy (*rolls her eyes* well, probably not AS creepy as some stuff that may be out lately, but it is creepy for certain and not in the Japanese-inspired way that most 'recent' creepy stuff is).
So, you'd have to grab it used from somewhere - and there are still walkthroughs for it various places - and check out this page *before* installing:
http://home.earthlink.net/~infernofilecabinet4/XpSetupsP_T/Sanitarium_Setup.htm
Will you like it? I dunno. Do you like 'Adventure Games' but not the cartoony kids type? If you do or if you just like creepy stuff, you'll probably like Sanitarium.
The Wiki article on it is very slim, you may want to check the links on the Wiki page for more info on it. Story-wise it was a VERY groundbreaking game for its time - and I prefer a good story to almost all else in a game

Hell yeah! Be sure and upgrade the FIREPOWER of those weapons whenever you can. Keep the handgun. The shotgun has a better version later, though. And combine the shit out of your treasures for WAY more money! I'm stoked other of you negroes are payin'.

I just dumped my hand gun and got the magnum, thinking it used handgun bullets, not i gotta rebuy a handgun. The only things i have sold so far are those green gems you shoot off walls. Ill have to start scalping some treasures.

My dolly just got me the new MS Flight Sim X for my birthday today. I haven't played a flight sim in years (and I was talkin' about gettin' back into it a lot lately). Anyone here ever use flight sims? I need to pick up a good yoke/flight stick, so I need some suggestions (preferably from anyone who's into these things). I remember tacking a Lear jet from L.A. to Jew York in realtime like a choad when I was in my early 20's. This one's got freakin' helicopters and all kinds a shit. I'm kinda eager to get it goin'.
:tipofthecap:
P.S. Heiser, I'm picking up my 360 right now, nigger! We're starting with Rainbow Six, so get ready for some XBox Live Co-op, ya filthy slut.

NICE! I started a thread when they announced the new flight sim and the screens looked sick! I had Microsoft flight sim WAY back in the day on my pentium one machine.

I just went and checked out flight sticks. Fuck THAT shit, man! The ones Worst Buy had were either ultra-fucking cheesy/flimsy, or one was like $120 what looked like a real freakin' throttle. I mean, I have no fuckin' idea what to do about this shit. TC might know - hope he stumbles across this. :tipofthecap:

Dude you GOT to get at least the stick and the throttle. I had a awesome stick that was modeled after an f15 stick. It was sweet. I remember my big game then was US NAVY Fighters.

Billy, this is a pretty good stick (http://www.amazon.com/CH-PRODUCTS-200-571-Products-Fighterstick/dp/B00006B84X).
Unless there's something new out there I haven't heard of, I think you have to spend 4 or 5 Jacksons to get something that feels half-way decent and works well.
Back in 1998, I use to do those ridiculous real-time long distance flights too.

DJ, thanks for that link, dude! I got so frustrated at Worst Buy that I went to Circuit Shitty. There, I picked up a decent Logitech stick (not unlike the one you linked me to ....they had one what looked like a real airline throttle, but it was like $120, so I said fuck it). This one's solid.
HEISER! I just dropped almost 700 fish in Circuit tonight. I came home with a new 360, Rainbow Six - Vegas, extree controller, composite video, and a flight stick. DUDE! I just hooked up the unit and played 20 minutes of the first level in R6 and I CAN'T fucking believe my eyes! Motherbitch! The best part is that I GET TO SHOOT BEANERS IN MEXICO CITY!! Dude, the graphics, the shadowing... it's fucking unbelievable! God DAMN! (Edit: Well, I'm not sure about an all-nighter on an X-Box anymore, but at some point - we definitely need to get 2-player co-op workin' over a weekend someday soon, negro.) You didn't steer me wrong, dude. R6 is right up my alley, and they even have Legacy controls - right out of Hayluh. My controller equivalent of being goofy-footed. So, I couldn't be happier. Man, I've never been more fired up about a game in my life. This is going to be earth-shattering.

Wait till you fly over Vegas! Thats some nice looking shit right there. If three way co-op is possible, I would like to play with you guys. I believe Howie has a copy too.

No doubt, Melon. Definitely we gotta get 4-way with ol' Howie. Fo' sho'.
I'm installing the sim now (it's taking forever to install). This is a massive jump from the last time I'd seen it (about 17 years ago, with vector graphics!). Now, it's like freakin' Google Earth in ultra-high resolution - outrageously schweet. Can't wait to get it goin' soon! :tipofthecap:
