View Full Version : Sam Kinison
I stumbled across this video. It's Sam making his HBO Young Comedians Show debut at Rodney Dangerfields. Classic.

I was in an audience of maybe 25 people one night at the defunct L.A. Cabaret and Kinison showed up out of nowhere for an impromptu set. I didn't like him until I saw what he could do in between screams. Yeah, he was huge. Him, Bill Hicks, and my all-time favorite Drake Sather... all dead before their time. And yet I just saw Wayne Newton in tonight's UFC audience. Go figure.

I know this is a Kinison thread (and that will resume), but any comedy fan may appreciate Drake Sather's old opening line: "Boy, I uh... just saw my grandmother today... yeah, three words always come to mind when I see her: what - a - whore."
...Okay, back to Kinison...

I don't remember it exactly what the bit was about but I love the one where he calls up a woman live on stage to yell at her. (I just wish I could remember the premise)

I got turned onto Sam Kinison way back in the late 80's when I saw a clip of him on Comedy Central. (Those were the days when they focused soley on stand-up comedy.) I can still remember pulling into the parking lot of my Christian high school and laughing at his tape in my radio.
I was lucky and got to see him live around 92 at the Fox Theater in Atlanta. His act was incredible as always and I screamed myself hoarse. God, I miss Sam, and Bill Hicks too.

He got some guy in the audience who got dumped on by an ex-girlfriend to call the gal and put it over the intercom. Great stuff.

"Hi, is Julie there? Julie, I'm here with Bob, and about 8,000 of his friends. We all just wanted to tell you THAT YOU'RE A F*CKING WHORE, AND A SLUT, AND A TRAMP!!"

Ha! I like the bit where he talks about the commericals to sponsor a starving 3rd world child... Then he talks about little Hajji and then starts to yell at the guy speaking on behalf of little Hajji in the commerical....
"HEY ASSHOLE!, WHY DIDN'T YOU GIVE HIM THAT FUCKING SANDWICH YOU WERE EATING IN YOUR TENT? I'M SITTING WAY OVER HERE IN AMERICA AND YOU TWO GODDAMN FEET AWAY!!!... AWWW AWWWWW"

He was so great--there are several DVD's in stores now on Sam!
Also Stern on Sirius said he will start playing some old tapes in September when Sam was on his show--that should be interesting to hear. I will keep you updated on exact dates.

Sam was the man. I fucking loved it when he screemed. I have this great bit where he's talking about those commercials that ask you to send food to other Countries. One of my favorite lines is: (On the Voice Over announcer) "Why don't you feed him, your only... FIVE FEET AWAY!" "We traveled over 700 miles to get here, and it occured to us... that you people wouldn't be so hungry... if you lived where the food is! You know what this? Yeah... it's sand. Here eat some, taste you motherfucker." Probably the sickest, yet funniest bit Sam did was "Don't Swallow" from his final album "Live From Hell". Here's one more Kinison quote: "thanks Dr. Ruth. Thanks to you, my wife is fucking a lawnmower."

Sam was one of the greats. One of the best come-backs at a heckler ever:
"... trying to get the -(interuppted by heckler) What? What's that? (pause for heckler) Yeah that's funny, you know that's the same thing your mom said to me last night but I couldn't understand her with my c*m gurgling in her throat."

I'd love to get the audio of that. I have tears from laughing so hard.

Sam was one of the great funny guys of all time. Bill Hicks? He was just a bitter unfunny guy.

That's what George Carlin has become. A bitter, unfunny man. He used to be one of the funniest cats in the stand-up business, but now he's just depressing to watch. Carlin was funnier when he was pilled up. When Sam screemed "Oh!", it was sourt of like Andrew Dice Clay, who I can'tt stand. I'll sit through an intire Sam Kinison CD and bust my gut with laughter, I'll listen to some of the dirtiest comedians ever, but even I have to draw the line somewhere, and I draw it at the Dice man. Let's get back to the greatness of Kinison, shall we? One of his albums "Louder Than Hell" is out of print for some reason. I doubt the iTunes music store has it, and I know for a fact that Amazon.com doesn't have it.
