I've been playing games since the Atari 2600 so narrowing down my favorites will be a little difficult.

Love:

1. The Elder Scrolls III (XBOX): I was really suprised about this one. It is one of the most open ended games I've ever played.

2. Deus Ex (PS2): I usually hate FPS because they are usually over blown but this was wonderful. Almost every action you make effects the game. Also it's a thinking mans game, you just can't through the whole game guns blazing. The other part of the game I loved was it was the first FPS to use light RPG elements.

3. Guardian Legend (NES): This is probably the most hardcore 2-D shooters I ever played. Action packed, fun (although at times frustrating because it's so difficult) and highly original at that time.

4. Grand Theft Auto series - I love the fact that after a bad I can plop this baby in and take my frustrations on San Andreas.

5. Captain Tsubasa III (Super Famicom) - If any of here speak Jap I highly suggest this gem. It's a soccer RPG game based on a anime. One of the most unique games I ever played and if any you wanna play something absoluly original by all means play this.

There is so many I wanna put down but can't think of them right now, when I do I'll deffinatly post them.

If you're into first person shooters and WWII (think Band of Brothers), definitely try Call of Duty (with expansion pack United Offensive) and/or Call of Duty 2. Good times.

Adventure Games.

vintage Lucasarts and Sierra mainly.

yes, the genre is in a pretty sad condition these days, but we still have Telltale Games (Bone, Sam and Max, etc...)

Hmm... Let's see. I love strategy games or anything military and historically based.

1) Dai Senryaku VII: Modern Military Tactics Xbox - A must have for anybody who loves strategy games or has an interest in modern military equipment. Turn based. Not big on visuals but the gameplay is awesome and has the most replayability of any game I've ever played.

2) Star Wars: Battlefront I & II Xbox - I'm a Star Wars geek so I loved this shooter. It's great to jump on Xbox Live and have at it. Die Rebel Scum!

3) The Political Machine PC - Neat game. Came out during the 2004 election and you pit combinations of modern politicians or historical ones against each other. You can also create your own. Use scandal mongers, intimidators, spin doctors, and advertising to capture the most votes.

4) Shattered Union Xbox - America experiances political turmoil and suffers a nuclear attack on DC which breaks the line of succession leading to break-up of the United States. Pick your faction and wage civil war to re-unite the country while kicking out European Union peacekeepers and Russian invaders. Turn based startegy with good visuals.

5) NHL 06 Xbox - I'm not a huge hockey fan but I always liked playing this EA Sports NHL series.

6) MVP Baseball 2005 Xbox - Take your favorite team and do what you want. You can have a firesale like my Florida Marlins are doing! Jesus!

7) The Operational Art of War: The Century of Warfare PC - AWESOME turn based strategy. Re-fight all the great battles of the 20th century and some hypothetical ones. From pre-World War I Balkan conflicts to Operation Desert Storm. Some of the hypothetical scenarios include invading Cuba in '62 or trying to win the Vietnam War by invading the North after the Tet Offensive. It even has Grenada! You can alos download other scenarios from the internet.

I absolutely love Half-Life and Half-Life 2, even if you do have to use that damn Steam program to play HL2. Nothing like taking a zombie head off with a thrown sawblade.

I also like Jedi Knight. Like Daniel, I'm a Star Wars geek, but I've never gotten into online game play. I'm not too crazy about the sequels, but I'd love to see LucasArts remake Dark Forces with current technology.

I agree with Roy Hutchins too. Call of Duty absolutely rocked. I can't wait to get the sequel. I hope my machine will run it.

I like the Monkey Island games as well. They are some of the funniest damn games around.

On the console front, I'm a Nintendo loyalist, and have been playing Lego Star Wars the last week or so. It's a fun diversion for an hour or so.

I like Final Fantasy, but I prefer the older ones. I wish I could get a copy of Final Fantasy 3 for the Super Nintendo. I spent hours playing that game. When I was in the military, my roommate and I once played it for 24 straight hours.

BTW, did anyone else get suckered into playing Trespasser or Daikatana? I bought them because of all the hype, and they blew whole herds of chipmunks. Trespasser was especially disappointing because of the crappy controls and the fact that it runs slow on my current machine despite the fact that the game is like 10 years old now.

I have also been playing video games dating way back to the original Atari, Coleco and Magnavox consoles. Scary huh. As for console games, Star Wars, Knights of the Old Republic is one of the best I have ever played. I played the hell out of the Grand Theft Auto series, until San Andreas came out. I got bored with it and only played about an hour or two. The original Halo was a blast, but Halo 2 was disappointing. If you like driving games/simulators, Gran Turismo series is a real time gobbler, very addictive. I just finished Splinter Cell:Chaos Theory The Splinter Cell series is very good, as is the Hitman series.

As for the PC, I typically go for FPS games. I probably spent most of my video game life playing Desert Combat, the mod for Battlefiled 1942. Half Life 2 was great. BF2 was a huge let down, so I've been on sabitical until a great mod comes out. Come on Desert Conflict. I agree that Call of Duty was excellent. Haven't played the sequel yet.

Pretty much anything Rockstar Games related. The Warriors is so goddamn fun, I played it through twice already. I finally won GTA San Andreas last weekend and I will probably keep playing the crap out of that for a while. Midnight Club DUB Edition handles all the racing needs I have.

I'm probably going to go buy the Lego Star Wars game today actually.

but yeah, San Andreas is the shizle.

I prefer the Zelda and Metal Gear series, though I was somewhat disappointed with Metal Gear Solid 3 and the way they're making the ones on the PSP. I was also a big fan of the Legacy of Kain series, but I didn't particularly like the way that series ended up going. At the moment, I'm playing Dragon Quest VIII and before that, Shadow of the Colossus, which I felt too apathetic towards (and that was confusing, because usually I either like a game or I don't). I also thought that Guardian Legend was the best game on the NES.

I quite the Final Fantasy series after part 7, with part 10 being the last straw. I don't like FPS and I don't like the Grand Theft Auto games. It's not so much that I'm offended by a game like that, but my problem with it is, well, I guess the best way to articulate it is that the gameplay is "stiff." Though, I do acknowledge the kind of value it does have, though that's not what I look for in games, so I wouldn't say a game like that is "bad," nor other types of games I don't like. I've never really played PC games.

My list of favorite games are, in not a very specific order, as follows:

1. Zelda OoT
2. Metal Gear Solid 2
3. Chrono Trigger
4. Final Fantasy 7, 4(2) and 6(3).
5. Super Metroid
6. Zelda: Majora's Mask
7. Zelda: A Link to the Past
8. Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
9. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

I wouldn't add this to my list of best games, but something else notable is Resident Evil 4. The graphics have are like none other, and I'm not just talking about how good or realistic it looks, but they way they did the movements of people in it.

It'll be great when the Nintendo Revolution comes out, 'cause then we'll be able to play and download all the NES, SNES and N64 games on it.

Oh yeah, does anyone know what the "Bally" is? I believe that's the first console created, though I may be wrong. Those were the first ones we had, which I've always played, though the NES was the best system out when I was old enough to know what a videogame was.

And I can't play games like Donkey Kong, Halo, or Myst, because last time that happened I ended up throwing a kid in the trunk of my car and driving it into a lake...

The first console to ever be released was the odyssey back in '72. In my oppion it doesn't count because all of the games were built into the system. The first ROM based console was a system called The Fairchild VES which was released a couple of years before the 2600. There were such great games on that like Tic-Tac-Toe, Shooting gallery, backgammon, etc. One of the intresting things about video games in the '70s was there were very few original game titles.

Does anybody remember Mattell Electronics Intellivision system? It had a numbered keypad with a disc paddle. You inserted different number covers depending on the game you were playing. My uncle brought it out from storage one time and hooked it up. Us kids had a blast with it! My favorite game was one called B-17 Bomber. I downloaded it recently from a classic gaming website that has a load of emulators for all those old games. Fun stuff!

Yes I remember the Intellivision. I had One game that was like safari man or something.. you had to jump rocks on one board and swim on another,, i forget. I also remember the Baseball game.

I really feel like i was born at just about the perfect time (1979) for video games I can remember being young and playing the old school intellivision , collecovision. PONG. And as i've grown so have video games. Ya Savvy?

Some of the PC legends of the 90s were Half-Life & mods, StarCraft, MaXiS games (SimCity, SimCopter, SimTower, SimAnt, The Sims, etc.), the Command and Conquer series, the Red Faction series, etc.

None of which Hollywood deemed worthy enough to make into a movie. Instead, they chose Final Fantasy and Resident Evil.

I also read in an EGM magazine that Nintendo's copyright has ended for the NES, so other companies can now make an NES. You can see it here http://www.playmessiah.com/onlinestore/index.htm

I don't see much point in getting it, what with the revolution coming out and you'll be able to download those games on that anyhow.

Yeah, the neighbor boy down the street had one of these. But he used to lose all of the little keypad covers all the time and all he had was this lame-ass Battlestar Galactica type game for it.

We had, I think it was Coleecovision, which was cool because they had the liscence to Donkey Kong.

MGS1 and HL1 are my modern favorites. DC is up there, too. For Older games: Dig Dug, Tetris, Columns, Sonic series, Metroid, Hextris, Puyo-Puyo, and Galaga.

BF2 sucks, hard. Why don't you fuck the helicopters up some more, EA?

Pre-NES Colecovision was the best system around.

The Atari 2600 sucked and there were very few games I liked on it. I remember before my 5th birthday I asked my parents for pac-man and by pac-man I meant the arcade machine. So my birthday comes and they got me the 2600 with pac-man it was so unbelievably bad that I cried. It was nothing like the arcade game at all so they went out and got me Donkey Kong which was slightly better but not much. Finally we got the colecovision and it rocked (especially for its time).

Oh man! I have the Xbox 360 and Call of Duty 2. This game is by the far the most intense shooter I've ever played. Who knew blasting away Nazi scum could be so much fun! It's so intense you have to put the controller down after a while and take a break! I highly recommend getting the Xbox 360 if only just for this game. You won't be disappointed. I can't wait to see what happens with other games that will be comign out later this year. Hopefully developers are beginning to get the most out of the 360's capabilities. If they end up topping Call of Duty 2 I'll be very satisfied with my 360 investment.

Final Fantasy...all of them own anything you can plug, spin, clone, mime, and play.

Final Fantasy 7 is the greatest game of all time

Unreal Tournament: The best fps game ever. How good is this game? I let it ruin my last relationship and I'm not sorry about it one bit.

I'm a pc gamer so I love all the great FPS games. The last great one I played was Half-Life 2 with all the attendant add-ons like CS and Day of Defeat. The best game I played last year was actually a console port- Knights of the Old Republic II. My son and I play Battlefront 2 on our home LAN all the time. Right now I'm playing a game called Fahrenheit (or Indigo Prophecy) and it's a decent adventure game so far.

Here are THE best games, in my opinion of course:

Original Ghost Recon for the PC, plus the expansions, Desert Seige and Island Thunder.

Rainbow Six 3 RavenShield for the PC.

Call of Duty and United Offensive for the PC.

Ghost Recon 2 Summit Strike for Xbox.

Can't wait to get my 360 for Call of Duty 2 and Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter.

I really liked Zelda but dont like having to buy a new system every year or so to get the new games.
So Ive stayed with PC games for the last few years.
Right now Im playing Seriuos Samm II & F.E.A.R. & both are very cool.
Past favs include:
Serious Sam Series
Half Life 2
Doom 3
Quake Series
Pain Killer
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Prince of Persia
Tournament series
& on & on & on...
All are pretty cool but Serious Sam is a favorite because its somewhat funny, not so dark ( in fact its radiantly colorful ) & jammed packed with enemies & weapons in which to kill, kill kill!!!

Some of my all-time favorites:

Parappa the Rapper
UmJammer Lammy
Gitaroo Man
Ico
Shadow of the Colossus
MGS Series

I also play Unreal Tournament 2004 (on my Mac)

I occasionally play the classics from my childhood (Atari, Intellivision, etc.), but the enjoyment of them wears off really quickly. I think most folks just enjoy the nostalgia and not necessarily the games. I had an Atari, Commodore 64, NES, etc. but there's no way I'd admit those games are my favorites.
